Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Cost of ‘Upgrade Using Avios’ on short haul

  • 121 posts

    Hi All,

Apologies if this is a basic question but not sure if I can the right article on it,

Does anyone know if all Euro Traveller fares can be upgraded to Club Europe using avios (unlike World Traveller fares) and if so how much Avios should this cost? Specifically LON-FAO? Is it a standard avios amount or can you select different Avios + Cash options like a full RFS redemption?

The formula quoted on BA is:
    “The formula is:

Avios for the cabin you wish to upgrade to – Avios for the cabin you make your booking in = Avios required to upgrade one way”
Not sure if this still applies with RFS?

Also can you use an avios balance from someone else’s account to upgrade like you can a full redemption? I am a nominee on said account,

    Thanks

I hadn’t thought about whether you can vary the amount of cash and avios used for an upgrade, but yes you can absolutely upgrade from ET to CE if there are avios CE seats available. I imagine the avios for the upgrade would have to come from the account which the original booking was made from (unless you’re referring to a HHA, in which case they would be taken pro-rata).

It’s the difference between the highest Avios amounts

You need to be booked in N or higher fare class (so not O Q or G) and of course you need seats in CE

Bottom line is that, for most leisure travellers, they will not have a qualifying fare to upgrade in the first place.

Ok thanks all, I just wasn’t sure if the fare class restrictions that applies to World Traveller fares applied to Euro Traveller fares too as I have UUA’d before in the past on a BA Holidays booking some years ago pre-Covid and had no idea these restrictions applied, I guess that was a qualifying fare.
