Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club VA rewards voucher value with new changes – how does the maths work?

Its possible that this isnt known yet, & apologies if I have missed it in the 300+ comments on the original article.

    So some maths…
If the new vouchers for Red are worth 75,000, and saver price reward seats are staying the same as currently, this means that eg Boston return in PE is 35,000 miles still. So 2 people without a voucher would need 70,000 miles.

Under the current system, using a voucher would mean paying 35,000 for both of you.

Under the new system, if the voucher is worth 75,000, is it 35,000+(35,000-75,000 & no change given) = 35,000 to pay

    Or is it

    35,000 + 35000 -75,000 = zero (no change given)

Or do we not yet know?

    From the HFP article:

“Flying Club Red members can redeem their voucher up to a maximum of 75,000 points”

which suggests to me that no change will be given if you redeem it for a lower value.

I get that there is no change given. But currently you pay the points for 1 person, and then use the voucher to get the 2nd person for zero points (or 50% of UC if Red).

So will you be able to use the new vouchers as a discount off the total points required for 2 people, or just a discount off the 2nd persons points?

As far as I know, the rules remain the same. It’s still a voucher. It’s not effectively valued at 75000 miles but up to a max of 75000. So if a Boston PE is 35000, the voucher will only be worth 35000. So your first calculation is correct.
