If you’ve never visited Vietnam before do not even think about car rental. Trains, planes and private transfers are the way to go. And Grab app.

If you have visited Vietnam before, and are thinking about car rental, I salute you!

    I agree, don’t drive.

Relevant question: any recommendations for a car and driver, either company or direct to a driver?

I’m going in a few weeks to Hanoi, Hoi An, Da Nang, Hue, Phong Nha, and Dong Hoi.

Answers will help the OP too, if he or she is now thinking of private hires rather than renting a car.

Many Grab drivers will have business cards and/or can recommend someone. I did not keep any contacts unfortunately.

I used Tour From Hue pre-Covid, had good service and found them reliable.

For travel related things like transport or SIM cards etc in SE Asia would suggest you check Klook website/ app. Will help you check book/ check suppliers. I have used it to book things all over; but its very good in SE Asia

Strickers – thanks for the recommendation!

u07ch – I know that Klook is good for SE Asia, but I work for a competitor so it feels a bit of a betrayal to use them 🙂
