Forums Payment cards Virgin Atlantic Virgin Atlantic credit cards for newbie

    Hi all,
I’m considering going for this card – previously always had the BA Amex (as our local airport is NCL as BA obviously have the internal connections) but due to the card fee hike and other recent changes I am looking at alternatives.
Can someone please just clarify roughly the cost (points and taxes) for 4 people from London to Dubai with a 241 voucher – in economy.
This would be 60,000 points + around £1,100 in taxes?
    Is this about right?

do a dummy booking; you will pay points for one but charges for 2

It’s more complicated than the BAPP 241 – the points you pay will depend on what status you have with VS. Ron’s articles on the Virgin cc and voucher look at the ins and outs of it.

    Thanks for the responses.
Did a dummy booking for feb half term to Dubai.
    20,000 points + £254 (economy).
So with a 241, if redeeming in economy from what I’ve read you just pay the taxes for one and taxes for two (as with BA 241). Regardless of Virgin status.
Total based on above for 4 people with the 241 voucher: 60,000 points + £1016. (£1176 if you include the card fee).
Flights with Gulf Air and Saudia to Dubai on same dates (albeit indirect): just over £1200.
It’s not a huge saving is it? And of course that’s all dependent on availability.
I’m sure there much more value when redeeming on certain routes and obviously in upper class but purely for economy redemptions its 50/50.
With BA for example, the internal NCL – LHR legs are ‘free’ on long haul redemptions, which is a big cost saving for us.

Premium and Upper class do give better savings and also economy flights during school holidays to Orlando can hit 2p per point

Ron! That’s the first time I’ve seen that – can’t believe it’s not happened before!
