Just called and booked flights for 3 of using the companion voucher. All went smoothly. One odd thing is that when using a companion voucher, you will have 2 booking references, although both are joined together at the back end so the crew know we are travelling together. Just found that to be odd, and a bit annoying when choosing seats having to log in to 2 bookings etc. Wanted to see if this was the case with anyone else?
This is normal on BA to protect the extra J availability. Not sure what the rationale is on Virgin although there are seemingly some SITA issues about having what are effectively two fare types on one booking.
Just had a look on Flyer Talk and it seems that this it is the case that when you book with the companion voucher you get 2 booking references. Not the same with BA.

references. Not the same with BA.You do en up with two bookings/two PNRs on BA if you book for three people per your original post. You will get one PNR if you book for two people and also booking four people using a second voucher.

So it seems to PNRs when booking for more than 2 people using a voucher. But obviously connected at the back end. Thank you for confirming!
