Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Virgin flight Point Booster – good idea?

  • 32 posts

I’ve kind of dismissed this idea in the past but I have a flight which got 4,156 miles and it can be boosted 4 times so that I get another 16,624 for £166.24. I could buy on Virgin CC to get 1.5 points on the payment as well (only 250 extra though)
Kind of feels the same as the reward CC, £160 annual fee to get 15,000 points plus sone more which they offer from time to time.

    Good idea?
I would have a use for them in about September this year but have to point boost by 16/2 as 6 months since I travelled.

Booster is certainly not bad value at all as a way of buying points – so if you are a buyer of points, are happy to pay to get 16k closer to your goal, and have a route to consume them – go for it.

Virgin has fewer earning opportunities than Avios (not so many bumper credit card SUBs!) and as such I have boosted several flights over the years – but only with a plan of where they will be consumed, and an assessment of whether I should use amex MR instead.

Thanks, more I think about it, it will help reach a threshold in Sep where I can use them with the companion voucher
    Will sort it today

always boost , it’s a great way to buy at 1p pp which is cheaper than any sale. Transactions aren’t through virgin though so doesnt count for the extra points , same as with buying points through any other airline and hotel

Yes I didn’t realise you could do this until recently. This is the most cost effective of buying additional points. Plus you can do this for Reward Flights and of course the normal cash flights.

I didn’t know reward flights counted, very useful to know as I have one later this year

If you boost a rewards flight and pay with the virgin Atlantic credit card, do you get the extra points on the card ? 3 points per £1 instead of 1.5 on the paid credit card.

No, i definitely got 1.5x as it’s not shown on CC statement as a Virgin Atlantic purchase

    Ive Boosted points twice now;

Once at 4x and once at 2x

And looking at my statement, LHR to MIA is 4423 miles so a 2x boost costing £88.46 will get me a TOTAL of 8846 miles.

Do you not earn points on the mileage flown anyway?

I’ve never given it thought before as always focused on card spend to get points.
