Good morning all
I was doing some year end clean up/admin and discovered a Virgin voucher issued for an unused flight ticket booked during Covid . I called up the Virgin customer service and was informed that the voucher expires 31 Dec 2023, cannot be extended and all travel must be completed by this date either by the holder of the voucher or a nominated 3rd party. As I do not have any travel planned before year end, just wondering if any one on the forum has been able to get any extension on the validity from Virgin or found some other means on recouping some value off the voucher (eg via travel agent or other travel website)
All ideas welcome
Thanks
It’s been mentioned here that different agents tell you different things so you could try again. It’s my understanding that only the outbound has to be flown by the expiry date, though that doesn’t really help you! Other people have said they have managed to get the expiry date as book by rather than fly by so it depends how much you can be bothered to keep trying!
I’d go back to Virgin and request that they refund you in cash if they won’t let you use the voucher to book a future flight.
It seems unfair that they can let the voucher expire especially as it was related to the inability to use the orignal booking because of the pandemic.

That’s for the credit card vouchers. This is in effect Virgin’s version of future flight credit.
Sorry, my bad! Yes, definitely take this further – they have effectively had your cash all this time and you should be entitled to it back, especially if it was VS who cancelled the flight originally. IIRC BA refunded some Covid vouchers without even being asked, to their credit.
