Just received an email from Virgin saying, from 19th September, Silver members will no longer be able to select seats for free in Economy Light, Classic or Delight at the time of booking. Instead, this will become available 7 days from departure. Yay! Thanks Virgin. What’s the point of silver!!
The email was desperately trying to frame it as an enhancement, whilst at the same time giving us the bad news.
I assume this is an alignment with Sky Team. 7 days seems generous … ‘Flying Blue’ Gold only gets 72 hours.
Would have been nice if they’d chucked in a small enhancement to balance things out.
Well it clearly is ‘another improvement for the worse’ but I can’t get too animated about it. For me VS Silver status is all about turning the cc voucher into a true 2-4-1 on UC redemptions. Two UC long haul redemptions per year and you earn enough TPs to renew Silver, then its just rinse and repeat! If only Virgin had a wider network but currently we are enjoying trips exploring the Caribbean and US West Coast and looking forward to a Maldives redemption next year too… Now just need to persuade Mrs GT of the attractions of Tel Aviv 😀
