Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Virgin Atlantic status match – confirmed after initial refusal

  • 20 posts

Has anyone else received an email from Virgin Atlantic confirming their status upgrade as part of the promotion that was running in February.

Initially they declined as my silver status with BA expired before my flight. I re-applied sending them a screenshot of my silver status, without the expiry date and that application was approved. A couple of days later, I received an email requesting a screenshot of the card showing the expiry date. I never bothered replying because I knew where the conversation was going.

Today I received the congratulations email for moving to VA gold status. Let’s see what happens when I have taken my flight.

Yes – exactly the same for me, my Silver BA expires before my flight so they initially challenged it.

(Albeit I have bookings that’ll get me back to Silver before then, but how were Virgin to know that!)

Had the same email today, confirming I’ll be Gold from August, a few days before an Upper flight I’ve got booked.

Yes, tells me I’ll be upgraded 3 days before the flight as per the Ts&Cs of the promotion. Flight isn’t for another 2 months, so it’s just VS marketing at work.

What do you get for being VS gold? I’m not hugely impressed with the points system, but may well move to cash flights direct from MAN going forward. Should have BA gold status to barter with by the end of the year!

    That actually looks pretty good!

The CC voucher appears to be better value with status, so I was keen to get gold this year before looking in to redeeming my next voucher to see how it plays out.

I just received an email from Virgin congratulating me on achieving Gold status

I haven’t credited any flights to them for 2 years, haven’t participated in any status match schemes, but I do have an Upper Class return booked for June and I was Gold when I last flew with them two years ago.

This is obviously a very pleasant surprise – has it happened to anyone else?
