Hey Folks
I have silver status with Virgin Atlantic.
I’m taking a Canada to USA flight with Delta next week.
I checked my Delta booking and it makes no reference to my virgin silver status, only references my Delta status which is not yet silver.
I thought there was a similar setup to OneWorld, where status was recognised both ways, or am I mistaken? I was hoping to get extra baggage allowance, etcNote that extra baggage is a benefit for Gold members only, even on VS metal.
Delta looked after me extremely well aa a Virgin Gold. For one thing you do get included in the potential upgrade queue.
It was my 1d10t client who allowed his travel agent to charge fully flexible price, and yet write the ticket so no modifications were allowed. And that turned out to bar me being able to receive the upgrade to Club on the overnight flight from the US, due to my Virgin status, that the Delta agent joyfully told me I had been confirmed for, for free, when I called up about a minor baggage query ahead of the flight.
Thanks folks, how is status notified between the airlines? Do I need to add my Delta details to my Virgin account or vice-versa? Any idea of the process? It just seems unclear to me at the moment, as when I book FinnAir, for instance, I can put in my BA number and it auto recognises gold status. Doesn’t seem to be an equivalent for Delta/Virgin?

BA/FY etc. are in the OneWorld alliance – VS and DL are in a joint venture (so, basically, DL is bankrolling VS as per many VML companies).
This means DL recognise you have VS status if you pop your VS FC number on your PNR but there isn’t any reciprocity in the same way as OW airlines do it.
VS Silver maps to low to mid tier DL status. VS Gold maps to Gold. The likelihood of getting operational differences is slim on DL, but you’ll get any bonus VS points etc. you’re entitled to.

So how does it work with other alliance airlines? I have noted my VS gold frequent flyer number on my up and coming Singapore airlines booking , are SQ able to see that I am Gold or do I have to show my physical “VS Gold Card” (which of course I dont have) at check in and the lounge?
Thanks AL – when you say add my Virgin Number to my PNR with Delta – how does one do that? I can’t see any option when I login.
I tried using this tool, which is pretty cool, I can see my PNR (amazing where a google search for an acronym takes you) but I can’t see my Virgin details here either: https://pnr.sh/delta

To answer my own question. When checking in today SIN to MEL on Singapore Airlines our VS Gold is clearly noted on our boarding passes so there must be some IT in the background that links star alliance together assuming your annotate your booking with another airlines FF number.
Sorry – missed this thread!

If you’ve been ticketed on a DL flight by VS (i.e. your ticket number starts 932), take your ticket number and drop it in to Delta.com in the My Trips section (make sure to choose Ticket Number in the dropdown!). You can get your ticket number from My Booking on the VS website. The ticket number is the sure-fire way to do this because VS create a ticket for your entire VS itinerary, including codeshared and JV flights, then the codeshare and JV flights issue a separate PNR for their portions, which is hidden. You often can’t make changes to codeshared/JV sectors using the VS PNR, so you need a way to get to the – in this case – DL one.
When you’re in to your DL booking, scroll down to Passenger Information. Below your name, there is an option to add your FF number. From the list it presents, choose “Virgin Atlantic/Flying Club”, enter your number and hit save.

To answer my own question. When checking in today SIN to MEL on Singapore Airlines our VS Gold is clearly noted on our boarding passes so there must be some IT in the background that links star alliance together assuming your annotate your booking with another airlines FF number.Tickets are issued according to an IATA standard known as PADIS. PADIS allows airlines to interact with each other using a common definition. One field that PADIS allows for is CustLoyalty (see p43), which takes for inputs: ProgramID, MembershipID, LoyalLevel and VendorCode.
When your FF number is attached to the PNR, either at the point of ticket issuance or afterward, a message is sent from the marketing airline to the operating airline(s) to advise a change to CustLoyalty. The operating airline essentially does what it’s asked to with the message – if VS send, say, SQ a message containing ProgramID=VS,MembershipID=1234567,LoyalLevel=Gold, then SQ will pick up on that and process it in accordance with the agreement – if any – that they have with the ProgramID airline. CustLoyalty does no validation of the frequent flyer number – so, you could use it to attempt to credit VS flights to BA… but, of course, as that isn’t allowed, you’d never get any Avios.

Has anyone with Gold had issues with their status not being recognized by Delta? I thought that we are meant to be the equivalent of Gold Medallion regardless of whether flight booked through DL or as VS codeshare.
I recently booked a DL domestic ticket and it wouldn’t show any status (I used to at least see Sky Priority on my boarding pass). I called Delta and after being on the phone for an hour they said I should have had Sky Priority but my number was not coming up as Gold (I am GFL by the way). I even tried my old FC number (starting in 009). They blamed Virgin. So called FC. They confirmed I was still Gold and blamed Delta. Not sure what I can do at this point.
Any ideas?
Any ideas?
You’re right that a VS Gold is accepted as a DL Gold (not that it means too much in reality, because there are DL Platinums and Diamonds above us). If the ticket stock is DL (i.e. it begins 006), then the issue is theirs to resolve. If it’s VS’, (i.e. begins 092), it’s their issue. If it won’t say prior to OLCI opening, try then. If it still doesn’t work, have the DL agent add it for you.
You can see what Delta think about your ticket by plumbing your PNR in to https://pnr.sh/delta. Look for a value next to FQTV – it should show something like “/VS1234567890-SURNAME/FIRSTNAME”.
Thanks Al. The issue I had is that my Flying Club number was showing in the booking but DL kept saying that the number wasn’t coming up as a Gold member
Yeah – I don’t know what DL see it as their side. They should be told it’s Gold but whether they’re shown that, I don’t know. I know BA’s Fly system better in that regard (but rarely fly them).
I have the same issue. I’m showing as virgin silver but last month qualified as gold. Any ideas who I should call at delta as I’m flying again Friday? Even if it’s just boarding as sky priority it’s something.

Has your FC account updated? If not, then you need to start by calling VS. Once they fix that, then they’ll probably need to re-ticket you so that DL can pick up the change.
My FL is showing Gold. I ended up flying silver with no perks – it’s ok. I’m going to call delta again I guess as no one at the airport could help. 🙁

Ticketing agents should be able to at airports, but – yeah – give DL a call. If they’re not helpful, you’ll now have the VS Gold number to pester.
Just following up on this post. Has anyone, mainly @NY-LON got this resolved?
I am currently trying to get this resolved with FL as Delta shrugged it off as not their problem – it probably isn’t. The PNR.SH site is showing my upcoming flight (1/23) on Delta as Silver so I’m trying to get it resolved. I have someone chasing this and they have contacted their internal IT dept who says they have reset the entry in their Database. It’s still the same. They are trying again – I also provided the PNR link to them which the agent had never heard of and found useful. I have removed my FC from Delta and on PNR I see it is removed, and added when I put it back, but still silver.
It used to be that we would get a new number every time we reached a new tier, but I guess they did away with that along with the physical cards – this would solve my problem i think but they won’t issue me a new number.
The agent did say that some new integration is coming between their systems soon – but no dates.
If anyone figured this out please let me know. Cheers!A few months on and no progress here. Added (and removed and re-added!) my VS Silver number to an upcoming DL domestic booking so I can get Sky Priority boarding. However no SP showing on the booking and pnr.sh confirms SKY_PRIORITY_FLAG=false. Delta website CS form just ends up sending a message across to KLM/AF instead!

https://flywith.virginatlantic.com/in/en/flying-club/members/membership-tiers/silver-benefits.html now mentions that you need to show proof of your status to gain the relevant Silver perks. I have flown VS a few times this year and connected on to quite a few DL services, and I’ve not had that experience – my Gold status tracks through – so this is weird for Silvers. Either way, the relevant screen in the app should do the trick.
Do DL explain why they think that KLAF needs to deal with this? I assume that DL see your ticket on the KLAF stock?
Interesting, thanks @AL.
Yeah it should work but will ensure have the VS app on my phone just in case. I’ll also ask at the Clubhouse in the UK and Delta lounge in the US (have access via Amex Plat) to see if they can sort in advance.
No the ticket is on DL stock, I think there’s some weird customer service setup where European CS enquiries are dealt with my KLAF – I seem to remember this before when I had an issue on a DL domestic flight! Online chat on DL website never shows up but I might try connecting to a US location via VPN and see if that works.
I flew Delta last week as a Virgin Silver yet Delta showed me as Gold Medallion. On a KLM connection, Virgin Silver was noted correctly on the boarding pass. I’ve previously flown on Delta as a Virgin Gold a few years ago, but was Red when I booked this itinerary. I wonder if the Delta database is just out of sync with Virgin’s?
Can’t comment on the benefits as I was flying in Delta One anyway so had all the Sky Priority benefits from my ticket. The new SkyClub at LAX T3 is definitely a step up from BA Galleries Club, though not quite ClubHouse level.
So online chat was accessible after using a VPN to the USA. Unfortunately the first two agents were useless but the last one was decent – at first he said all sorted but then actually phoned me back to say he’d made a mistake! Looks like everything has changed recently in their system and they were totally unaware of VS joining SkyTeam (despite the press release at https://news.delta.com/virgin-atlantic-joins-skyteam-alliance !). He’s going to escalate internally as it looks like things haven’t been properly updated.
