Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Virgin Upgrade Voucher

  • RBD 6 posts

Hello, a recent HFP post mentioned the CC voucher can be used to upgrade 2 passengers on a one way booking? Just to confirm, can the following be done:
    1. Let’s say a ticket has 4 passengers booked in premium, JFK-LHR
    2. 1 voucher is available in the Virgin account of the person who booked the itinerary
    3. This voucher can be used to upgrade 2 of the 4 passengers to upper class, provided there are 2 award seats available there? They would simply split up the reservation with a new record locator for the folks in upper class?

    Thank you for any input!

Yup, that all sounds correct to me.

Just remember you get stung for a lot of surcharges on one-way, US routes 😬

Funnily enough I’ve just done this – we fly back from Orlando on Monday and a couple of seats popped up yesterday.

First time of asking they wanted around £310 per seat but I lost connectivity so couldn’t go through with it (not sure if I would have). Woke up this morning, seats still available so tried again and this time £160 per seat. I jumped in.

No idea why such a difference – they also said yesterday I couldn’t use a CC voucher yesterday as I’d use one in the original booking so would have been a lump of points as well. Today, no problem using the voucher. All in around £1000 saved thanks to the connection dropping and a different agent!

@LeeG As you get closer to departure, TFS will reduce in order to incentivise as that plane goes whether seats are filled or not – they’d rather have seats filled, at the end of the day!

Are you saying VS surcharges are variable? I have never seen this mentioned before!

To give a real example, @NorthernLass, earlier this week, I booked a tier point run on VS metal. I started off in Premium as, despite plenty availability in Upper, I wasn’t willing to pay four times the cost of the flight for a bed. This evening, the upgrade cost has come down significantly to about £700.

A large part of the difference is a reduction in fare (in fact, the complete removal of it) but there has been some YQ reduction, too, albeit not a colossal difference.
