When does status expire/downgrade?

My year ends on 8th November – will I drop down a class on 9th November or do I get until the end of the calendar year?

You drop down at the end of the month after your year ends.

In your case this happens to coincide with the end of the calendar year (December).

If you look in the app, it should say something like

Tier Points collection year ends – 08 November 2024
Card expiry – 31 December 2024

Only flights taken up until the 8th of November will count for retaining status (*), then you have about 7 more weeks of the current status which gives time for partner flights to eventually credit and for new cards to be posted out. If you didn’t retain status, that downgrade will happen a day or two after the card expiry date.

* – if you’re very close, and you have a flight just after the collection year ends, if you ring BA they will often agree to back-credit a flight from a week or so after the collection year end to help you renew.
