I was able to refer people easily but a few months ago I noticed that that option isn’t available on my app or via the website. When I ask Amex they say it happens sometimes and it might be back. They won’t give me an exact reason. I didn’t referred enough people to hit the 90k limit and I would love to refer more people as I need another 30k in points for a flight. Anyone know why referral might be unavailable and what I can do?

This happpened to a lot of people last year. It may be linked to the ‘quality’ of those you referred – if they all cancelled quickly you can see why a block may happen. It tends to be lifted in time though.

Ah, damn. I referred a few of my mates for the Gold card so we could all go on holiday, earn points, and use the lounge passes. Can’t say what they did with their cards afterwards.
Hopefully they’ll lift it in a week or so because it’s been a few months now, and I kinda need the extra points before I cancel my card!

@goldengirl22 unfortunately people tend to stay in the sin bin for rather longer than that.

@goldengirl22 it’s possibly mentioned in that linked thread, but if you or any of your mates happened to hang on to your referral link, and it wasn’t too long ago, others can use it by simply pasting the URL into their browser and you’ll still get the referral points.
