I have silver status with BA at the moment, but it expires in a month or so, prior to a planned flight from Scotland to Qatar early next year. I understand exec club status is recognised by Qatar airways, but am wondering if I am better off booking via BA now whilst I still have silver status, so I can make use of the ability to select free seats at point of booking, or will I have the same opportunity if I book direct?
I guess I will also collect BA tier points if I book via BA, so that in itself is attractive. That said, it Qatar airways offer more generous ‘at point of booking perks’ then I’d be happy enough booking with them.
Appreciate any thoughts anyone has on this.
You will get TP points regardless of where you book, be it BA or QR. (As long as you fly with a OneWorld partner)
If you book on BA’s website and the flight is with someone else BA will simply forward you to them for seat selection so wouldn’t make a difference.
Booking with BA however gives you the 24hrs cool off period.
Also, if you book a BA holiday and the flight is a BA flight number you may get double tier points if it includes 5 or more hotel nights or car rental.
