Any recommendations for Hilton hotels in or near Birmingham? Or any to avoid? St George park is fully booked!
I would avoid the Doubletree at Coventry Stadium. stayed there a few weeks ago. first room was dirty (hairs in the bathroom and food on the floor) so moved into one of their “best” suits which was also dirty (sweets and food wrappers on a wardrobe shelf – granted I am quite tall and only just saw them on the top shelf but still should be cleaned)
The city is pretty poorly served by the brand. Where do you need to be and does it need to be Hilton? Mentioning St. George’s Park suggests you’re happy to be at least 45 mins away from the city.
Do your dates clash with any England football internationals? St. George’s park is a big place so unusual to be sold out unless it’s closed to the public because the England camp have moved in for the week.
Happy to stay 30-45 mins from the city.
The other option is to go for IHG as we have the Amex offer. Staybridge suites seems like a good option. Not expensive and modern.Staybridge Suites is a good IHG option in the city. Indigo Stratford upon Avon is also very good if you are happy to travel a bit.
Hilton Garden Inn (Brindley Place) always our first choice if staying centrally. Not exciting, but always good service and usually quiet.
If you don’t mind being out of town then HGI at the airport or, slightly less convenient, the Metropole both have decent access to the centre by train.
Voco St Johns.
Often as little as 12k points pn.
Walking distance to Solihull Station (Chiltern Railways into Marylebone) and within a stones throw of Creations offices should you wish to say hi to JDB.within a stones throw of Creations offices should you wish to say hi to JDB.
Lol!
Thanks everyone for the suggestions!
I can also recommend the brindle place double tree.
If you tell me locations that you would be close too ill let you know. I know the city/surroundings really well.
Within the city centre, the HGI at Brindley Place is good – definitely avoid the Hampton on Broad St which really isn’t very nice (not sure what the Jewellery Qtr one is like).
From the other chains, for IHG agree with Staybridge Suites which is v. nice, and HIX on Holliday St is ok. For Marriott, then probably the AC which is central. The HGI at Brindley Place is good. The Hampton on Broad Street is fine for a Hampton, but a step down. The Hampton in the Jewellery Quarter is a tiny bit nicer, but there’s nothing around it so plan on taking the tram back into the centre for anything. (Tram stop is basically outside the hotel)
With Marriott, both the AC and the new Aloft are nice. The AC is at the mailbox, only a few minutes walk from New Street Station and with a bunch of restaurants and shops by it. The Aloft is a fair way out, 15 minutes walk from New Street with no decent restaurants of pubs nearby, so plan on long walks or a taxi.
The HIX on Holliday Street was excellent during the pandemic when it was super quiet. Prices have shot up and they don’t have enough staff for when it’s full, so I’ve stopped staying there.
I’m not a big fan of the Metropole over by the NEC and particularly not the “single deluxe” rooms there. I know it’s sold as a single room and so you’re not going to be sharing with anyone but I still object to the complete lack of a bathroom door!
