Updated: our crowdsourced list of Amex Membership Rewards transfer times

Two weeks ago, I asked for your help in putting together a list of the actual (as opposed to promised) time taken to transfer points from American Express Membership Rewards to various airline and hotel programmes.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their experiences.

The list below is where we are so far.  Please post in the comments if you have any additional information or can help with a partner not already listed.

All of these transfer times are for transfers where the relevant airline or hotel account is already linked to your Membership Rewards account.  If they are not linked, you should expect your first transfer to take a little longer.

References to ‘day’ technically mean ‘night’!  If I say ‘1 day’ it means that if you do the transfer at some point during today it should arrive in your account at some point tomorrow.

Points generally arrive in your account well before the completion email arrives from American Express, so you should not treat the confirmation email as the actual arrival time.  It is normally better.

Comments

  1. Canadian MR: Air Canada Aeroplan is 1 day although in some cases have seen it in a couple hours.

IDC MR: Air France: 1-2 days.

  2. Apologies, I didn’t feedback my own experiences in a timely fashion!

    BA: 2-3 days IME
    HH: 2 days (again IME)

Hard to believe they don’t have electronic (instantaneous) transfers in this day and age (for all transfers) – its poor show when the back office team(s) are still using manual spreadsheets

I completely agree. Once your account is linked, it should be instantaneous.

Just received my bonus Etihad miles from the MR transfer that I did on 21/06/15. So that took 14 days instead of the promised 7. But at least it was in time to book another flight before the devaluation!

  3. Amedeo says:

Eurostar Frequent Traveller programme: 3-4 days

  4. Eurostar Frequent Traveller programme: 2 days.

  5. CX – 3 days but did have to have Asia miles swap first and last name for it to go through
