News in brief:

British Airways and Liberty washbag collaboration

Liberty has designed a new line of washbags for BA‘s First Class cabin.

From 1st January 2017, initially on the Los Angeles route, passengers travelling in FIRST will be given a new washbag the British brand has designed exclusively for BA.

The ladies washbag features an oriental inspired Liberty flower print.

The men washbag is black with a subtle paisley pattern.

Both washbags are filled with Aromatherapy Associates toiletries which, from the pictures above, look identical to the contents of the current bag.  It’s not exactly on a par with the revised Qatar Airways Armani amenity kits though …..

Get a 75% bonus when you buy Club Carlson points

Club Carlson, the loyalty scheme for Radisson, Park Plaza and Park Inn, is offering a 75% bonus when you buy points, however few or many points you buy.

The link is here.  The offer runs until TODAY, 30th October.

This deal does potentially offer value if you redeem in the right places on expensive nights, although the fall in the value of the £ makes buying points in $ to use in the UK far less attractive than it was.

The maximum number of points you can purchase is 70,000 (40,000 + 30,000 bonus) for $280.  That is £228.

The key London hotels such as Park Plaza Westminster Bridge – a new London property with a pool and next to the London Eye, London Dungeon, London Aquarium etc – are 70,000 points per night, so £228.  Rob reviewed the hotel here and we were also there last week at a conference.  It is a lot smarter than you might imagine.

The May Fair (which Rob reviewed here, and didn’t like much) is also 70,000 points.

At the more prosaic end of the scale, there are various Park Inn budgets hotels around the UK for 9,000 points per night.  Under this promo, 9,000 points would cost you just £29 based on the pro-rata price of 70,000.

Remember that you can also transfer American Express Membership Rewards points at the 1:3 rate if you need a few extra points for a planned redemption.  To be honest, if I had the Amex points I would use those rather than buy points even with a 75% bonus.  You are getting almost 1p per Membership Rewards point.

We have a winner for our Worcester Whitehouse competition

Two weeks ago Head for Points ran a competition in association with the Worcester Whitehouse Hotel giving away a ‘romantic weekend in Worcester’ to one of our readers.

We were genuinely surprised by the number of people who entered and we may run similar competitions in the future if the right prizes come along.  There is only one winner, unfortunately, who is … James Baggaley.  Congratulations!

We hope you have a fantastic stay at the Worcester Whitehouse Hotel.

If you didn’t win, but would still like to go and visit Worcester, you can find out more about the Worcester Whitehouse Hotel at the hotel’s website.

Hello – I do not think introduction is from 1 January, being the official press release… And for general introduction it is later still as it is being introduced on the red carpet route first.

    • Genghis says:

      Good spot
“The new Liberty London First washbags appear on board from January 7, 2017.”
“Initially the new Liberty London wash bags will be introduced on British Airways’ A380 Heathrow to Los Angeles red carpet route and then they will be offered to customers flying in First on the rest of the airline’s worldwide network.”

      • Rob says:

Odd – BA always does 2 versions of each press release, one for the travel trade and one for the media. We used the travel trade version which didn’t mention this.

        • lee says:

Were travelling back from New Y on the 9th jan so looks like they wont be rolled out by then

  • Nick says:

    Qatar Armani kits are decent.

  • Colin MacKinnon says:

Hotel sounds good for a trip to climb Big Ben at beginning of December, but 200-odd quid is a lot more than the 29 quid that Rob paid!

Any ideas for a good deal round there (i.e. any Last Minute offers etc) for a couple of nights?

    • Lady London says:

Accor Happy Mondays (see Rob’s articles) if you’re feeling really cheap.

  • Fenny says:

Why do people always assume women want something flowery and blokes prefer black? I’d rather have a black one. Are the contents the same?

    • R says:

They are not, not in First… In Club they have started to look a lot like the same though…

    • R says:

Forgot to say, although in F you may convince them to give you one of each, they normally don’t like to use the word “No!” to F customers.

    • Lady London says:

+ 1. I always try to get a blokes one on most airlines.

Have you heard the expression that for women, manufacturers always ‘shrink it and pink it’ ? 🙂

  • Harry says:

The current BA First amenity bags are cheap looking so anything will be an improvement! Surely for the price of a First ticket they can invest another few quid in a decent bag. Best things about the current contents are the First pen and the comfortable eye shades.. I have never found any of the airlines cosmetic lines anything to write home about.

    • CV3V says:

I quite like the BA First amenity kit, the bag is ok quality and a good travel size, the contents are all pretty useful n relevant and the toiletries good quality. I have a few Emirates Business amenity kits which came with Bulgari aftershave and body lotion, none of which were ever used as they smell more like perfume – i was convinced they were repeatedly giving me the womens kit!

I fly on BA First on 4 Jan, hope BA get their finger oot and load the new kits on my flight!

    • Terry Buller says:

Nice idea – shall try -)) and, yes – agreed: pen is the best part!!

  • Alan says:

I still use my leather bmi washbag, that must have been from about 10y ago when I flew in The Business to Chicago with them! 🙂

SQ Suites also had a very generous bottle of Salvatore Fergamo aftershave in their bags, collected 4 of them thanks to multiple sectors and still got plenty of it left!

  • Mike says:

I quite like the existing F washbags. They’re handy for storing stuff like shoe polish, cables etc. back home!

  • SSM says:

Are the wash bags meant to be removed?
