How to earn American Airlines miles from UK credit cards

How to earn American Airlines miles from UK credit cards (October 2022)

American Airlines no longer has its own UK credit card.

There is, however, still a way to earn American Airlines miles from a UK credit card

The route is via Marriott Bonvoy. Marriott Bonvoy hotel loyalty points convert to American Airlines miles at the rate of 3:1. You receive an additional 5,000 miles bonus if you convert 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points at once.

The best way to earn Marriott Bonvoy points is via the official Marriott Bonvoy American Express card. It comes with 20,000 points for signing up and 2 points for every £1 you spend.

EDIT: Until 8th November 2022, the sign-up bonus on the Marriott Bonvoy American Express card is doubled to 40,000 points!

At 2 Bonvoy points per £1, you are earning (at 3:1) 0.66 American Airlines miles per £1 spent on the card. This will increase to 0.83 AA miles per £1 if you convert Bonvoy points in chunks of 60,000 points.

OK, I own up! Despite my mistrust of Facebook, I logged in and clicked the three links in order and ‘liked’ AA and AAdvantage.

The link on the survey did not work for me. Oh well, Time to ‘unlike’, I think.

The T&Cs do limit it to US residents, but it’s always worth a try. Note that I “liked” and did the survey a few days ago, but nothing has posted yet. Also note that if you are doing this with an eye to transferring a few miles via points.com, AA set a minimum of 25,000 miles before you can transact!

The 2 Hilton Facebook promos were also limited to US residents …!

Thank you for visiting! The Miles for your Thoughts promotion has ended.

If you previously completed the survey and shared your thoughts with us, then 500 AAdvantage® miles will be deposited into your account within 6-8 weeks.
