Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

It’s back – 500 Clubcard points (1,200 Avios) for joining TopCashback

It’s back.  If you missed this deal when it ran earlier in the year, now is your chance to jump on board.

TopCashback, like Quidco, is a site which allows you to earn a small amount of cashback on your day to day shopping by clicking through to participating merchants.

Last year, TopCashback launched a feature allowing you to pay your cashback directly into your Tesco Clubcard account – and give you a 5% bonus on top.

This dramatically increased the value of TopCashback cashback versus Quidco:

£10 of cashback earned at Quidco earns you £10

£10 of cashback earned at TopCashback earns you £10.50 (with the 5% bonus) paid into your Tesco Clubcard account. That gives you 1,050 Clubcard points. These convert into 2,520 Avios points or 2,625 Virgin Flying Club miles. You are effectively ‘buying’ Avios points for just 0.4p each.

I have had a ‘refer a friend’ link to TopCashback on the site for a while, and I am grateful to everyone who used it. If you haven’t already joined up, there is now a generous incentive.

Until 18th August, if you join TopCashback via our refer-a-friend link, you will receive 500 Clubcard points when you have earned £10 of cashback. You must use a refer-a-friend link or you will not receive the bonus.

There is no time limit on how long you have to earn your £10 cashback – a month, three months, six months, whatever. You therefore have little to lose, if you are not already a member, by signing up now.

Note that your 500 points are not deposited directly into your Clubcard account. Once you have earned £10 cashback, TopCashBack will put a further £5 in your TopCashback account. However, you can only withdraw this £5 to your Tesco Clubcard account.

You can transfer up to £50 of cashback per year from TopCashback to Clubcard (a year runs from the date of your first Tesco transfer, not the calendar year or from the date you joined). This means that you can earn up to 12,000 Avios per year this way.  Your £5 / 500 point sign-up bonus does NOT count towards your £50 per year cap.

Once you have hit your £50 annual cap on transferring to Clubcard, you can transfer further cashback directly to Avios points if you want.  For every £1 of cashback you earn, you will have the choice of taking £1 as cash into Paypal or your bank account or receiving 105 Avios points.

The only condition is that you join via a refer-a-friend link.  If you sign up directly on the TopCashback site, you will not receive your 500 Clubcard points.

What next?

If you are not already a TopCashback member, you should open a TopCashback account now and use it for your day-to-day online shopping instead of Quidco.

If you are already a member, why not refer your partner – as long as they have their own Clubcard account – via your own refer-a-friend link, which you can find on the TopCashback site?

There are two membership levels at TopCashback – a free version and a £5 annual fee version. The £5 level pays slightly higher cashback and has improved customer service if you have any problems. However, you will receive the 500 Clubcard points whichever level you choose. To be honest, I would start at the free level and only upgrade when you have decided that you like the site.

Unfortunately, there is no notice on the TCB site that you will be signing up for the Tesco offer. However, don’t worry, you will be fine! ALL refer-a-friend transactions until 18th August will be receiving it. The terms and conditions of this offer can be found here.

You may want to take a look at some of ‘easy money’ offers on TopCashback, or even their ‘free money’ offers. If you know what you are doing, some of the gambling and bingo sites offer effectively free money for signing up and betting a small minimum. You can minimise losses by having your partner sign up and then taking opposite win/lose bets on the same sporting event.

I receive a commission for referring you, once you have triggered your bonus, which helps to support HfP. Thank you.

  • Andrew (@andrewseftel) says:

Why would you double your bets? Isn’t the exercise to reduce the variance of your returns? In the real world, there’s nothing particularly useful about the sort of Martingale strategy you’ve proposed.

  • William Charles says:

Anyway to make this work for those in the US?

  • Dave Stringer says:

Yes, but it used to sit there greyed out.

    Now it’s gone completely.

    • Matt says:

You have to go back in and link your clubcard back up from scratch if that happens

  • Danny says:

I had the same problem last week, something to do with their system, but you can provide the details again via ‘my profile’.

  • Dave Stringer says:

Thanks Matt and Danny. Fixed it.

  • Erico1875 says:

It takes 5 minutes to open up another CC account.

    • VJ says:

Can you please explain; how to get a clubcard number once you register on the tesco website?

      • Rob says:

Due to their new security measures I think you need to wait to be sent a card. Quicker to pick one up in store and register it.

        • avidsaver says:

When I spoke to their customer service a couple of days ago they told me the option to pick one up in store was no longer available. Is this false?

          • Rob says:

I saw some in Yorkshire last week, I admit they are rarely seen in London.

          • Mark2 says:

I wanted a new Club Card account to get vouchers rather than Avios for a special purpose. I asked at Customer Services and they pointed me to an ATM-type machine which took all the details and printed out a temporary card (just a bar code on paper roll). The three plastic cards arrived about three days later.

  • Michele says:

Hi Adam, I’ve not had it tracked yet, hope it does!

  • idrive says:

If you bet on Red and Black, you are covering 36 of the 37 possible outcomes, therefore this bet would not count towards any wagering requirements.

    • avidsaver says:

I was confused by this but I think if you bet on Red OR Black it does count for the wagering requirements. Perhaps someone in the know would kindly clarify please?
