Marriott Bonvoy is offering 1,000 bonus points per night and double elite night credits on stays between 13th February and 29th April. Click here to read more and click here to register.

Keep up to date with new hotel offers by signing up for our free daily or weekly newsletters.

Back in September I wrote about the Starwood promotion for mid September to mid December called ‘More For You’.

Starwood, the Westin / Sheraton / W / aloft / Luxury Collection etc hotel group, was offering:

double Starpoints on every SPG stay of two nights or more between September 15th and December 15th

triple Starpoints if your stay includes a Friday or Saturday (Thu/Fri in the Middle East)

Starwood SPG

The promotion is working as it should – I received double points for my stay at the St Regis in Doha and my wife received them for a stay in Madrid.

Starwood has now added an extra carrot to the promotion – 500 SPG points just for registering and updating your details.

Registration is available via this webpage.  At the bottom of the page it now says:

Update your stay preferences on your spg.com profile to personalize your stay and earn 500 bonus Starpoints® from October 15 to December 15, 2014.

The small print says:

My Stay Preferences bonus: Registered members are eligible to receive 500 bonus Starpoints when updating the members spg.com profile online between October 15, 2014 and December 15, 2014. Updates made prior to registration are eligible, but only if the update falls within October 15 to December 15, 2014. The bonus will post to the registered member’s account 2-4 weeks after the end of the promotion period. All members who are registered for the More For You promotion are eligible for the My Stay Preferences bonus regardless of whether they have an eligible booking in the promotion.

The key point to note is that you MUST register for ‘More For You’ in order to get the 500 bonus points but you do not have to do a stay.  Simply register via this link, then go to spg.com to log-in and make a minor tweak to your stay preferences in your online profile and you’re sorted.  You will find the ‘My Stay Preferences’ menu under ‘My Profile’.

  • Nick Burch says:

I guess the safest ones to change are under “Lifestyle Stay Preferences”. I’d already got the others set to things I liked, so I didn’t want to switch from “Non Smoking” to something else, nor request an accessible room.

That said, I’m not quite sure what the lifestyle preferences map to, so hopefully I haven’t selected anything too silly for my next stay…

    • James67 says:

Maybe space to work will mean an upgrade to a two bedroom suite so I clicked it 🙂

    • Alex says:

No you MUST change My Stay preferences according to the T&Cs – from a plain reading of the promotion text, changing the other preferences won’t count.

      • Nick Burch says:

My Profile -> My Stay Preferences -> Lifestyle Stay Preferences

So, I think (hope!) changes there count!

    • Alan says:

Handily when I went in I somehow didn’t have a smoking profile selected, so was an easy choice, non-smoking now picked and email confirmation from SPG of a change.

  • James67 says:

Thanks for spotting this one Rob, takes me eithin 100 points of my next 20k transfer. In Asia at moment so may just pop into an SPG hotel for lunch to take me over the line.

    • Singing Dwarf says:

Funny how this one has been running since 15th October, but its only just been posted – here and on other such blogs within the past couple of days…

      • squills says:

        Odd that.

Marketing bods hopefully justifying their existence 😉

      • Rob says:

The promo has changed. Registration was meant to close on October 30th so we all ignored it recently. This was also not part of the deal when the promo launched on September 15th. At some point they pushed out the closing date a month and brought in the 500 point but no-one noticed. Starwood also failed to email us press types as they normally do.

  • Jimmyjimmy says:

It’s very easy to merge Spg accounts I had to do it when Amex created a new account for me when transferring membership rewards.

Hence if someone really wants an extra 500 Pts …..

    • James67 says:

Thanks Jimmy, will keep that in mind but no problem meeting target this time. Just didn’t want to spend 600 on card as Im currently focussed on PRG target spend.

  • Peter says:

Gentle request. Even though I am a long-standing spg platinum card holder and big user of spg.com, the very recent relaunch of spg.com has thrown me and I cannot find where “stay preferences” are lcoated in my online profile. Can anyone please help me? Thanks to HfP for flagging up this mini-promotion.

    • d4ve says:

Log into your account, click on your name, click on my profile.

    • Nick Burch says:

Log in to your account, click your name in the top right to bring down the menu, then on the left pick “My Profile”. When that page loads, scroll about half way down to “My Stay Preferences” and hit the edit button. Make some changes, save, and you should be all set!

You should also get an email confirmation of the changes, might be best to save that so you have a record in case the points don’t post for any reason…

  • Adam says:

Can you open a new spg account to bag these points then transfer? I tried to register today but they do not have uk districts on their drop downs and you have to select a district?

    • TimS says:

I didn’t have to choose a district when I registered a new account today.
The dropdown box had an asterisk implying the field was mandatory but it let me register fine without choosing something from the list. May be only mandatory for applicable countries?

  • Kiran says:

Thanks – will these points extend the expiry date of my SPG balance? They are normally good about reinstating expired points but it’s still a hassle.

  • Peter says:

Thank you d4ve and Nick Burch – I appreciate it.

  • idrive says:

    THANKS again! done
