Win a fantastic pair of Air New Zealand Hobbit-branded model aircraft

Thanks to Air New Zealand, I am running a unique competition today which will run for just 17 hours.
Between now and midnight, you can win a rare ‘money can’t buy’ pair of Air New Zealand model planes in Hobbit livery!
This is what you can win:
There is just one prize which consists of both of the Boeing 777-300ER model aircraft (scale 200:1) shown above. One features Smaug and the other features the cast of The Hobbit.
If you are a model aircraft fan you will instantly realise how collectable these are. You certainly don’t need to be a keen collector of model planes to enjoy these, however, they would make an idea Christmas gift for yourself or for the aviation fan in your family.
These aircraft are actually part of the Air New Zealand fleet, as you can see here:
The winner will also receive some Hobbit memorabilia that was given out to guests at the London premiere of ‘The Battle of the Five Armies’. This includes a Hobbit-branded USB, eagle design inflight socks and eye mask, a feather and ink pen set and some golden chocolate acorns!
The competition will run for just 17 hours and closes at midnight tonight. I will draw a winner tomorrow morning and Air New Zealand will do their best to get the prize in the post on Friday evening. The winner should receive it before Christmas – it is coming from their London office, not Auckland! The competition is only open to UK residents.
About Air New Zealand
Air New Zealand flies daily from London Heathrow to Auckland, with onward connections possible to a further 26 destinations in New Zealand.
You may be surprised to know that – as all of the London services fly via the United States – you can also book Air New Zealand if you are flying between London Heathrow and Los Angeles.
It is the only airline to offer the innovative ‘Economy Skycouch™‘. For an additional charge, a couple or family of three can reserve these special rows which feature a 5 foot 1 inch couch. A couple can use it to stretch out whilst a family can use it to create a play area for small children. You can learn more about the Economy Skycouch here.
How to enter
I am using the same automated entry software that I used for the recent competition I ran with The Langham (who, coincidentally, also have a well regarded hotel in Auckland).
Because of the tight time scale you cannot earn any extra entries by tweeting. You enter by completing your email address in the form below. This remains private – it will not be shared with Air New Zealand and will not be used by Head for Points for any other purpose.
The rules
You can see the detailed rules by clicking on ‘Terms and Conditions’ in the entry widget. In summary:
You must be at least 18 years old
You must be a resident of the UK and have a UK postal address. If you are currently outside the UK you will not be able to enter – you will need to email the link to a friend who is in the country!
Entries are limited to one per household
The competition closes at midnight, London time, on Thursday 18th December
If you cannot see the entry widget below, please click here and you will be directed to a special website to enter.
Good luck! The winner will be notified on Friday morning and – if they respond promptly – their prize will be in the post before the ‘last posting date for Christmas’ deadline.

How to earn Star Alliance miles from UK credit cards (April 2025)
None of the Star Alliance airlines currently have a UK credit card.
There is, however, still a way to earn Star Alliance miles from a UK credit card.
The route is via Marriott Bonvoy. Marriott Bonvoy hotel loyalty points convert to over 40 airlines at the rate of 3:1.
The best way to earn Marriott Bonvoy points is via the official Marriott Bonvoy American Express card. It comes with 20,000 points for signing up and 2 points for every £1 you spend. At 2 Bonvoy points per £1, you are earning (at 3:1) 0.66 airline miles per £1 spent on the card.
There is a preferential conversion rate to United Airlines – which is a Star Alliance member – of 2 : 1 if you convert 60,000 Bonvoy points at once.
The Star Alliance members which are Marriott Bonvoy transfer partners are: Aegean, Air Canada, Air China, Air New Zealand, ANA, Asiana Airlines, Avianca, Copa Airlines, Singapore Airlines, TAP Air Portugal, Thai Airways, Turkish Airlines and United Airlines.
You can apply here.
