£50 off £100 Radisson / Park Inn / Park Plaza spend for BA Amex cardholders

American Express has launched a generous Club Carlson (Quorvus Collection, Radisson Blu, Park Inn, Park Plaza) promotion.

You will receive £50 cashback on a £100 spend at a participating hotel before 31st March 2017.

It appears to be aimed at BA Amex cardholders, who should find the deal under the ‘Offers’ section of their online statement.  It may be available to other cardholders and may not be available to all BA Amex cardholders – I am working off a small sample set.

(EDIT: looking at the comments, fewer BA Amex cardholders than I expected may be targetted for this.  And no-one seems to have it on any other card.)

Only 5,000 registrations will be accepted so you should register immediately if you are interested.  Head for Points is more than capable of generating 5,000 registrations on its own, albeit this offer won’t appeal to everyone.

Unfortunately, Amex has messed up the offer.  I’m sure it will be fixed quickly once they read this (!) but for now it is a mess:

The ‘Offers’ page says you get £50 cashback on a £100 spend “at checkout”.  This implies that pre-paid rates do not qualify, but the terms and conditions don’t mention this.

The list of participating hotels is apparently at amexoffers.co.uk/clubcarlson but that link is broken.  It appears that non-UK hotels are included as the rules discuss currency conversion.

It says that bookings must be made at clubcarlson.com or via telephone but this seems unlikely due to the way that these offers are triggered.  It makes no sense that you can’t book via the Radisson site, the Park Inn site or the Park Plaza site.  Even bookings via third party sites such as Expedia may well qualify if you have £100 of incidentals to pay on departure.

Assuming that advance purchase rates do count (and we’re not sure of this), you could tie this offer in with the decent sale currently running at all Club Carlson chains.

It will also work alongside the generous Club Carlson promotion currently running.  This offer 5,000 bonus points per night, which I would value at £15 – £20.

If you have American Express Platinum, remember that you can claim free Gold status in Club Carlson which, if nothing else, will get you additional status bonus points for your stay.

As the offer runs until 31st March, and your plans may not be firm until then, you may want to register just in case.

PS.  The photo above is the funky aquarium in the lobby of the Radisson Blu Berlin.  I’ve no idea if this hotel is included in the offer as the link to participating hotels is broken …..

PPS.  Club Carlson has scrapped its generous 2-4-1 and 4-4-2 deals for elites …. more tomorrow

  1. From FT, re Hilton Honors (yup, not HHonors);

    “Hi all,

I wanted to give you a sneak peek into something we’re officially announcing tomorrow. We’re adding some new benefits for Hilton Honors members – industry-first, game-changing perks.

And no, that’s not a typo! You may have noticed, we’ve dropped that extra “H” in our name. Simple, easy, straightforward – Hilton Honors. And so I’ll be updating my FlyerTalk name to represent that.

We’re continuously listening to our members in these forums, and through extensive research we’re evolving the program. Today we announce three new Points benefits and a new benefit for Diamond Elite Members – just the latest stop on our journey to deliver more of what matters most to you.
    1. More flexible Points & Money –Starting in late February, Hilton Honors members can use a flexible payment slider to choose nearly any combination of Points and money to pay for their stay, any time, with no blackout dates. Members can still opt to use all Points on award stays and elite members can continue to enjoy the popular 5th Night Free benefit.

Our Points prices will also become more flexible. When demand and room rates are lower, Points prices will flex and go lower than before. As we launch this new benefit, we’re also saying farewell to hotel categories – which will allow prices to go lower than the previous ranges. But you can rest assured about the value of your Points. As we make this transition on Standard Room Rewards, each hotel’s maximum Points price is NOT increasing.

For example, today a Standard Room at Category 10 hotels maxes out at 95,000 Points per night. Once the new Points & Money program launches, those hotels will continue to top out at 95,000 Points, and may sometimes be priced lower than the previous category range.

    2. Shop with Points on Amazon – Come summer 2017, Hilton Honors members will be able to use their Points to purchase products on Amazon.com. Our partnership with Amazon will give members more choices and more ways to use Points.

    3. Points Pooling – Starting this April, members can combine or “pool” their Hilton Honors Points with family and friends on future award stays. We’re doing away with the previous transfer fee, so it will be completely free for a Hilton Honors member to pool their Points with up to 10 family members and friends to get to more vacations together, faster.
New Diamond Benefit – We’re also excited to share a brand new benefit for our Diamond members. We know that sometimes life puts a pause on travel, whether that be because of a new job, a new addition to the family, or for any number of situations. Starting in March, current eligible Diamond members can choose to extend their status for a year, one-time, for any reason when a light travel period doesn’t allow them to requalify. Diamond members are eligible if they meet either criteria below:
    • 3+ years as a Diamond Elite with at least 250 nights (paid or reward) since joining the program; or
    • 3+ years as a Diamond Elite with at least 500,000 Base Points since joining the program.
To check your lifetime years, nights or Base Points, please contact the Diamond Desk.

I’m looking forward to hearing your questions and your feedback – and very glad to provide more details on any of the benefits mentioned above. I’ll share a link to the updated website first thing tomorrow morning. Reach out to me via PM or post your comments on the thread.

    Thank you!

    • Hmm at least we know what they were talking about – not exactly exciting changes then! Am highly suspicious re points changes – sure maybe the max isn’t going, but now hhonorspointssearchtool.com has gone we’ve got no way of know what a ‘normal’ redemption rate is for any particularly property and I think they’re likely to drift up.

  2. rams1981 says:

    Point pooling sounds good

    • Agreed: at present my wife has loads of the points because of a cancelled booking and I have the status. This brings Hilton into line with Marriott and IHG falls even further behind.

  3. Anyone managed to find the list of participating hotels yet? Link is still broken

  4. JamesWag says:

Has anyone been able to figure out why American Express discriminated against some of us by not giving us the opportunity of taking up this offer whilst they did with other BA cardholders ?

    • the real harry1 says:

did you actually ask them to give you the offer? (as some did here, successfully)

hard to take you seriously with a comment like that about ‘discrimination’ – you think they are discriminating against because of what, exactly?

      name/ skin colour/ what they know about you/ spend & value as a customer/ address/ religion/ you’re just bolshie/ favourite colour?

      it’s laughable

they’re just using marketing tools & have a limited marketing budget

  5. Just added to my BAPP – this card has only been open a couple of weeks and hardly has any offers on it either! Weird Amex IT logic…

  6. I asked Amex to load the offer, as I was not targeted. Qatar is not on the list of participating hotels. But if prepaid hotels are included, how will they know which hotel it was?

  7. Roger I says:

After 48+ hours, the ‘participating’ link works. As noted by Frenske, Norway is excluded, although Sweden and Finland are included.

Intended? Clunky? I sent a message to AmEx (their offer, their website) to check but I’m not expecting illumination. They didn’t respond to my previous message. As I’m going to Norway, I’ll doubtless give this a miss.
