News in brief:

Earn Avios with Rolling Luggage

Avios has launched a new partnership with luggage retailer Rolling Luggage.

At present it is only valid online via their website here. You will also be able to collect Avios in their UK High Street and airline stores which is expected to be launched next week.

The earning rate is good:

  • 5 Avios per £1 spent
  • 1,000 Avios bonus with your first purchase over £100
  • 750 Avios bonus with your second purchase over £50 within 12 months

The in-store earning system is a bit fiddly.  You do not hand over your Avios number in the shop.  Instead, you enter your purchase reference number from your receipt on their website and the Avios will be credited within 28 days.

To celebrate this new partnership, we will be running an exclusive Rolling Luggage competition later this month, with some impressive suitcases to give away.  Keep an eye on HfP.

Register for the new Starwood Preferred Guest promotion

Starwood Preferred Guest has rolled out its Autumn promotion.  It may work really well for you, and it may be a stinker.  It depends.

You can register here.

It sounds simple.  Between 12th September and 15th January, you will earn:

1,000 bonus Starpoints per stay at St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, W, Le Méridien, Westin, Sheraton, Tribute Portfolio and Design Hotels

500 bonus Starpoints per stay at Aloft, Element and Four Points

10,000 bonus Starpoints when you stay 25 or more nights

The snag is that only a modest percentage of Starwood hotels are participating.

Here is the list of 1,000 point hotels and here is the list of 500 point hotels.  If you stay at a hotel which isn’t taking part, you don’t get any bonus.

If you stay one night at a cheap participating Sheraton, the extra 1,000 SPG points would be worth around £15 of free hotel stays or (if converted in chunks of 20,000) 1,250 airline miles.  That is a good deal.

If your hotel is not participating, however, you’re stuffed!

That said, you might as well go ahead and register via this link just in case you do have a participating SPG stay in the next four months.

Registration closes on 30th November, and you don’t want to be caught out if you end up having a Starwood stay in December or early January.

I will look at the new Marriott promo tomorrow.

Good To Go Heathrow parking flash sale

Good To Go Parking is the ‘leisure’ marketing front for Official Heathrow Parking.  You can only book via Good To Go if you include a Saturday night, and you aren’t told until after you’ve booked that you are actually going to be in the officially airport-run car parks.

It is running a flash sale this week with parking from £3.95 per day with Drop & Ride and from £6.35 with Meet & Greet, based on a 15 day booking.

You need to book by 10th September for visits before 13th October.

You don’t need any discount codes – these prices will show automatically on their website here.

“Avios will be awarded in accordance with a fair usage policy and excluding any fraudulent orders.”

How is a fair usage policy defined?

I just bought a luggage tag.I wonder if we can make the 2nd purchase immediately or best to wait 24 hours? I might be fair and buy an umbrella for £15 next!

    • the real harry1 says:

      buy one for your partner?

      • Phil says:

I don’t think it matters who you buy for. It’s the need to make 2 purchases. 1st for 1000 Avios and 2nd for 750 Avios.

“1,000 Avios bonus with your first purchase
750 Avios bonus with your second purchase within 12 months”

      • Jorge says:

        Using the same address?

  • Drav says:

Does anyone know if you will still get the bonus starpoints for a stay that has already been booked and paid for at a qualifying hotel? the stay will be within the promo dates

  • Alan says:

Annoying to have excluded properties – so many recent promos other chains have got out of the way of doing that. Ah well, might manage one eligible stay!

  • Anna says:

Just ordered an umbrella – at checkout it says you can also add the avios to BAEC.

  • Nate1309 says:

O/T Just heard the BA AMEX card being advertised on the very local radio station I listen too. Never heard it before. Must be struggling for customers!

    • the real harry1 says:

I suggest you take a screenshot of the page when it has accepted your BAEC/ avios.com number – you won’t see reference again to it after you have ordered, so have no other way of proving you input it – and RL refuses to apply the points retrospectively

      • Nicky says:

Yes I noticed that when my confirmation came through, so I rang to verify that my number had been accepted: they will get back to me apparently. Unfortunately I did not take a screen shot of my number after I had entered it….

        • the real harry1 says:

I will be doing the same once they deliver

          • Kinkell says:

I didn’t see anywhere to put the BAEC number and kept hoping the box would appear before i’d bought the item . Needless to say, item bought, no number inserted. Emailed CS immediately with details. So here’s hoping…..!

  • TripRep says:

As this is bits, an O/T for Aviation geeks, Delta 431 racing hurricane Irma out of San Juan yesterday, kinda reminded me of this… 😀

  • Kinkell says:

Just did a dummy order, so obvious where to put number. I swear it was NOT on the page when I ordered. Anyone else caught out?

    • the real harry1 says:

you are correct – see my post above – box only appeared once I hit ‘back’

  • Anna says:

OT – Tesco have a few extra points offers at the moment on toys and Lego. Unfortunately I really don’t need any more toys and Lego, I wish they would put the offer on something else!
