This week we are running a great competition in association with Rolling Luggage.  One Head for Points reader will win a pretty cool set of new suitcases, worth over £600.

Rolling Luggage is the latest company to join forces with Avios.  You now have the opportunity to collect Avios when buying luggage, either online or instore.

The luggage company, owned by the Samsonite Group, has stores in major airports as well as on high streets in the UK, Denmark, Ireland and Norway, although you can only collect Avios in the UK.  It sells brands such as Samsonite, TUMI, American Tourister, Lipault and Hartmann.

    Hi Rob,

Query for you unrelated to this post. I have spent around £13k on my free BA amex this year, the year ending in a few days. I could upgrade to the paid card and get my companion voucher, and then downgrade again but am not sure if it’s realistically worth the effort and checks on the credit score. I only have 10000 points at the minute and am not sure if i’ll be able to gather enough points within the next two years to make the companion voucher worthwhile. What is your opinion on it? How easy is the downgrade to the free card once you’ve upgraded?

    Cheers

    • Rob says:

It seems a shame not to – you could, after all, pick up 44,000 Avios in under a year simply by churning an Amex Gold (get, trigger bonus, cancel, wait 6 months, repeat) – or 88,000 plus referral bonuses if you referred your partner too.

What are you down? £15 per month for the BAPP card. Assume you downgraded again after 2 months, that is £30 spent. Even if you used your 2-4-1 on 2 economy tickets to Spain, you’re saving 15,000 Avios which is worth £150 or so.

      • Chris says:

Point well made, I’ll get the upgrade done today. Do you know if the upgrade will appear as an additional application on the credit score? The adviser at AMEX said it wouldn’t but i’m dubious.

        • Chris says:

Spoke to AMEX – my cut off date for this year is the 3rd so they’ve said that I wont get the new card before then so wont get the companion voucher 🙁

  • Ian says:

It’s a shame that even though this is a traveller website, if you are not in the UK (I am in the US on business) you cannot apply.

    • Rob says:

It is running for a week and I assume you have a VPN like TunnelBear on your laptop or phone anyway so you can keep watching Strictly …..
