Hilton and IHG hotel sales now on

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Both IHG (Holiday Inn, InterContinental, Crowne Plaza etc) and Hilton (Conrad, Waldorf-Astoria, Hampton etc) have sales running at the moment.

IHG

The IHG ‘World Sale’ is being run as four separate sales, just to confuse everyone.

You must be a member of IHG Rewards Club to book, but that is free to join if you are not already a member.

The home page for the sale is here.

This is the European booking page, which offers discounts of 15% to 30%.

You need to book by 29th November for stays before 31st March.

From that page you can toggle to the other sales:

  • Asia Pacific, Africa, Middle East – 15% to 30% off for stays until 15th April
  • China – up to 20% off for stays until 31st March
  • Americas – 15% to 30% off for stays until 31st March

PS.  IHG has also launched another ‘buy points’ bonus, running until 8th December.  You will receive a 100% bonus when you buy over 20,000 IHG Rewards Club points and a smaller 40% bonus on purchases of 5,000 to 19,000 points.   Full details are on this page (log-in required).

Hilton Tallinn Park

Hilton

We previewed the European Hilton sale last week and it has now opened up to cover Asia and the Middle East too.

The IHG sale is valid for any day of the week, albeit only until the Spring.  Hilton has taken a different tack.  Its sale is valid for ALL of 2018 (and the rest of 2017) but only for weekend stays.

You can see full details on the Hilton website here.

The sale covers Europe, Africa and the Middle East.  Asia and the Americas are not included.

Here are the headline details:

Valid for participating hotels in the UK, Middle East, Africa and Europe

Discounts are up to 25% off ‘Best Available Rate’ and ‘Best Available Rate With Breakfast’ for Hilton Honors members, and up to 20% off for non-members

Bookings are non-changeable and non-refundable (so, let’s be honest, it isn’t a full 25% discount as a non-refundable rate is usually 10% cheaper anyway)

You must book at hilton.com here

Bookings valid for WEEKEND STAYS at any point between now and the end of 2018

Bookings must be made by 31st January 2018

Given that you can book for the whole of next year, you may be able to lock in a deal for any weddings or other events which you know are coming up.

There is a separate flash sale covering Japan and South Korea with discounts of up to 50% – click here for details.  You must book these rooms by 24th November.

The photo above is the new Hilton Tallinn Park which we reviewed here.

PS.  American Express still has a Hilton cashback deal, offering £50 back when you spend £250 at selected UK and European hotels.  Look in the ‘Offers’ section of your online Amex statement first to see if you have it and can opt in.  It is, in theory, only valid on ‘pay on departure’ rates though.

Was looking for a pre Christmas stay in London, and the Indigo Kensington was pricing up at £69 on the long standing MasterCard rate for the last Friday pre Christmas (22nd). Should work for accelerate too. In the end we went with Hilton Olympia at £111 for an exec room, conscious that the hotel may be a bit tired but the lounge has good write ups.

    • Brian says:

The Hilton Olympia is indeed tired, but the lounge is nice. At that price, I’d still have gone for the Indigo, despite Hilton Diamond status – lovely hotel, especially if you get one of the better rooms, and the location is easier to get to – very close to Earl’s Court, whereas the Hilton is a bit of a trek from the nearest tube.

      • Rob says:

Hilton Olympia to High St Ken is no more than 10 mins walk.

        • Paul says:

You can also get a bus right outside the door, which will take you to Shepherds bush or earls court. Very quick and regular service.

      • Russell says:

I just wish they’d spend a few quid on the Hilton Olympia. It was a really grand old hotel once, that much is clear, but it feels constantly one stout push away from falling down.

I still stay there in preference to the Hilton Kensington though. Calmer and more homely.

        • ee says:

We have stayed at the Hilton Kensington a couple of times before. We found it fine, rooms a bit tired but lounge good. At London prices, I’m sure we will easily drink and eat the £42 price difference in the lounge during happy hour and breakfast!

Slightly OT: If I sign up for the IC Ambassador 10k bonus offer by 29th and pay using 32k points do I still get the bonus or do I need to pay cash for that?

    • Adam says:

Can’t see anything obvious in the T&C’s about either payment method. I’m going for it – will let you know in 8 weeks time…!

      • JamesB says:

Oh thanks, great help 🙂 I think I’ll chance it too although I cannot see any further mention of the 10k bonus on the sign up page after clicking through from the ‘your world sale’ page.

    • Love2Travel says:

Is this a targeted offer for the 10k points or a standard one?

  • David says:

Slightly OT (sorry!) but Hilton Honors related…

I currently appear to be earning double ‘stay’ credits through hilton for recent stays (I.e. it counts as two rather than one). Does anyone have the details of this? I’ve just got Gold for next year earlier than expected and could possibly go for Platinum (if I can find another stay) assuming they all credit double to the end of the year.

Yet I find nothing about this deal anywhere!

    Any ideas?

  • Alan says:

IHG also offering a 10k bonus for those joining Ambassador before (IIRC) 28th November. Details on the World Sale page.

  • Aliks says:

    IHG ripoff.
We have a couple of nights in the Crowne Plaza Lyon in early December. Booked on 29th October for EUR230 now on special offer for EUR264.

    • Andrew says:

      Not exactly a rip-off.

It’s only costing 15% more to make a booking that’s less than 2 weeks away, whereas you booked it over a month before the stay.

  • Kathy says:

Just my luck – I joined Ambassador and booked my Sydney hotel nights last month. Could have got myself 10k points and saved some money in the sale!

  • TripRep says:

    Slightly OT, but Hilton related.

Had a great stay at Hilton Birmingham Metropole at the weekend, double tier upgrade to a King Deluxe Suite, with Exec Lounge access & 2pm checkout.

Due to a misunderstanding (likely to be mine) we just missed the end of breakfast serving, kind staff put us in the relaxing coffee lounge, waitress service, ordered fantastic Eggs Benedict, Lattes/Cappuccinos, etc all complimentary, couldn’t of been more helpful. Great quality food and service, felt like being in a VS clubhouse.!

Free Courtesy bus to catch quick airport monorail for flight home, would definitely return, made sure I filled in a feedback form, hotels need reminding and staff rewarded when they really get it right.

    • Genghis says:

Nice. I only got my single bed room that the ICAEW had booked and paid for me. The lounge breakfast was decent though.

  • Crafty says:

Prepaid stay at Conrad St James triggered the £50 off For me. Took a few days to come through though, I was panicking…

    • johnny_c-l says:

For the last Hilton 3,000 MR offer it took a few days to get the email, then about 10 days to get the credit. A bit odd given it is usually always instant; I reckon they give themselves a few days grace in case pre-authorisations trigger it.

      • John says:

Even if preauths trigger the transaction won’t follow through if you don’t subsequently pay over £250 with that card, and some of the time you will so it doesn’t matter?

    • Louie says:

Anyone else have any experience of whether prepaid stays (Park Lane Hilton if it matters) will trigger the £50 off?
