Last week we published details of the new 2018 weekend flight schedules that British Airways will be operating from Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol.

BA has now announced three new Summer routes from the regions as well as increased frequencies on three key London City routes.  This is due to the arrival of two new Embraer 190 aircraft in January and April, taking the BA Cityflyer fleet to 22 planes.

Here are the changes:

From London City from January:

Flights to Milan double, from 11 per week to 23 per week

Flights to Frankfurt increase from 20 to 24 per week

Flights to Dublin increase from 32 to 36 per week

From Manchester:

Flights to Dublin launch 18th May – outbound Sundays 09.55, inbound Fridays 22.20

Flights to Florence launch 19th May – outbound Saturdays 19.25, inbound Saturdays 17.10

From Edinburgh:

Flights to Florence launch 19th May – outbound Saturdays 10.45, inbound Saturdays 15.30

These flights went on sale last Friday on here and the regional services will operate until September.  Good Avios availability should still be there.  The problem, of course, is that unless you plan to stay away for a week the new Manchester and Edinburgh services are not very practical.  You may end up travelling in one direction via London.

Note that the extra Milan flights are an interesting option if you are looking for a ski holiday.

These will be two class flights so Club Europe is an option.  That said, the Embraer aircraft used are 2 x 2 seating throughout so the only difference will be lounge access and a free meal.

  1. Has BACF gone BOB yet or is it not going to happen after all?

  2. The Manchester to Dublin route….best of luck against Aer Lingus and Ryanair!

    • Yes seems really odd timing

      • The MANDUB isn’t to compete (not going to happen with a once-a-week service), it’s to cover some of the cost of positioning the aircraft for the other flights. Look at the timings and engage brain… it’ll fly LCY-DUB-MAN on Fridays, then MAN-DUB-LCY on Sundays. Same reason as the MANLCY direct flights.

    • Must be to fill the gap of all those people who go from Dublin to Manchester for the weekend, but don’t get pissed on Saturday night (because they’ll miss the early return flight).

  3. Cheers Rob, just got a couple of seats to spend our anniversary in Florence 🙂

  4. I welcome any direct BA flights from MAN but do they not realise that we in the north are sufficiently sophisticated these days to travel year round?! They also largely miss the lucrative school holiday periods of Easter and February/October half terms which is doubly annoying for those of us restricted to these travel dates.

  5. The Original Nick says:

O:T, I’m flying RTM-LCY today on BA. Does anyone know if there’s a lounge at RTM?

    • No but go to the check-in desk and you get a voucher which is enough to get a “meal deal” thingy at the airside cafe, can’t remember if usable at other restaurants

  6. The Original Nick says:

    Thanks John

  7. Jimmyware says:

What days are the 4 extra flights to Dublin going to operate

  8. Thinking of booking MAN to Florence on Avios and using a Lloyds upgrade voucher for x2 one way on the return leg.
But balancing this against a LCC? Any comments on the lounge?

Maybe not the best option, may just pay.

  9. Agree not the most practical of timings from BA!
