Cheapest British Airways Club Europe fares ever – from £114 return for 80 tier points

British Airways has launched some incredibly low Club Europe fares out of London Gatwick.

In fact, these are the cheapest Club Europe fares I have ever seen.  Back in October 2015 BA ran a flash sale offering seats at £150 return, but these deals beat that.

The lowest fare on offer is, admittedly, a niche one.  Nuremberg in Germany is £114 return for travel in late December to early January.

More mainstream destinations are also very cheap.  Barcelona is £140 return in Club Europe from London Gatwick, for example.

The maths is compelling:

You get 80 tier points for the flight, so at well under £2 per tier point this is worth considering for no other reason than it is a cheap way to earn or retain status.  As I note below, Catania is £215 return for 160 tier points.

Even a British Airways Blue member would earn 2,150 Avios for a return flight to Barcelona, so that is at least £20 of value coming straight back

You will get access to the impressive new British Airways Galleries lounges at Gatwick which we reviewed here

You will get the other benefits of Club Europe – fast track security (which works well at Gatwick), priority boarding, empty middle seat, a free meal and all the champagne you can get through

The best way to look at the available routes is via the Low Fare Finder tool on ba.com.   Click here, select ‘Europe’ and select ‘Business’.

This is what I see for travel between January and April for under £200 in Club Europe.  Remember that a 2-night minimum stay or a Saturday night may be required:

  • Alicante from £180 return
  • Amsterdam from £180 return
  • Barcelona from £140 return
  • Bilbao from £198 return
  • Bordeaux from £136 return
  • Friedrichshafen from £150 return
  • Geneva from £156 return
  • Genoa from £146 return
  • Innsbruck from £188 return
  • Limoges from £144 return
  • Luxembourg from £158 return
  • Lyon from £170 return
  • Malaga from £180 return
  • Nice from £180 return
  • Nuremberg from £114 return (late Dec / early Jan only)
  • Pisa from £196 return
  • Porto from £190 return
  • Rome from £186 return
  • Salzburg from £180 return
  • Seville from £170 return
  • Turin from £160 return
  • Venice from £180 return
  • Verona from £170 return

If you are after tier points, you should take a look at Catania in Sicily.  This is a 160 tier points route and is selling for as low as £215 return in May, June and July.  My article listing all of the 160 tier point Club Europe routes is here.

You should also have a look at the BA Holidays website here and do a dummy booking with a hotel or car hire added.  You might find it gets even cheaper.

  • Tim - Points to be Made says:

Bear in mind though that this fare (RLV2K) has a 2 day minimum stay, so it’s not a Tier Point run in its truest sense. Still a cracking deal though!

    • Tim - Points to be Made says:

added to clarify: RLV2K refers to the Gatwick to Nuremberg route in the picture

    • shd says:

Ryanair have EUR20 r/t fares *from* NUE which you could nest in a BA ticket, if you were keen to get back to LON without staying over in Germany.

They also have EUR24 r/t fares *to* NUE for those who might want to visit cheaply and don’t care about the TPs 🙂

  • Tom says:

Fantastic deal, just booked for us to go to GOA during February half term(!), regular route for us and we were thinking of going then anyway, a very handy 80 TP from an unexpected source. Cheaper than economy for the same flights.

  • Sam says:

Hmmm, spotted this and put NUE on hold for me & kids for 29-31 Dec. I know nothing about Nurembourg apart from it looks nice from the pictures & hotels are cheap!. Anyone have any feedback for whether it’s a nice place / child friendly / good chance of snow? I have 2 hours to make up my mind!

    • Sam says:

Also, I meant to say, thanks for highlighting!

    • Richard says:

Its a beautiful city, one of the nicest in Germany. Although it only takes a day to see pretty much everything. The best time to go is for the Christmas markets – there may be a few stands still there when you get there, but it has the most famous Christmarket in Germany. Would recommend for a weekend. Could hire a car and explore area a bit which is also v nice

      • Nick says:

Don’t need a car to explore, get a Bayern ticket (€29 for the family) and you can use any regio trains for a whole day

    • Lumma says:

Would definitely recommend Nuremberg. Old town is beautiful and compact. Nazi rally grounds are fascinating too but may be a bit cold walking around in January

    • signol says:

I did a training course there once in winter. Nice old city. Ubahn to the airport. Good little sausages 🙂

    • Jonty says:

Playmobil world, thermal baths should do you for 2 days

    • shd says:

If you’re after snow, take the U-Bahn to NUE central station and hop on an ICE express down to the Alps? New high-speed line means it’s only 3h30 to Innsbruck or 3h15 to Salzburg.

    • Margaret says:

We did a quick trip with Ryanair (£18 return!) in July this year. We stayed at the Movenpick Hotel at the airport as it’s only a couple of euros and 15 minutes into the centre. There’s a really good museum of Nazi history at the Kongresshalle, the stadium where Hitler gave some of his most famous speeches (you can stand where he stood!) across the lake, and lovely marked, Durer’s House and a little castle. Quite a lot of the old town was destroyed by allied bombing, but has been recreated using old plans. There are also some really good. cheap German resturaunts!

  • TripRep says:

Any rumours of one way deals from europe to UK

  • Michael says:

The Catania flights look like a steal in CE, but the flight timings are appalling!

    • Adam says:

Depends on the day of the week. Wednesday out and Monday back the timings are very good.

  • the real harry1 says:

Sevilla in March/ April is wonderful, if anybody needs an idea

it hits spring 2 months earlier than UK & is perfectly warm by mid-March, positively nearly hot in April

plus a fantastic city if you’re into the real Spain

many happy days spent tapeando there 🙂

    • roberto says:

Was in Seville at the weekend and can concur , its a wonderful city..

    • Curious says:

tapeando – Do you mean tap dance with Spanish guitar or enjoying various tapas dishes?

      • the real harry1 says:

just the tapas! I love Spanish dance & music as well

my favourite city (amongst several favourites!) is Salamanca, where the local guys in groups play for the tourists in season (many of them Spanish!) with loads of fadas etc until late – or early, I suppose…

now there’s a vibrant city which does tapas the old way 🙂

  • Jose says:

Thanks Rob just booked Catania for last bank holiday in May for 3 people plus hotel for under £800 all in.

  • Gin and Tonic Please says:

We went to Catania earlier this year and stayed at Zash boutique hotel (zash.it). The hotel is stunning – highly recommended.
