Cheapest British Airways Club Europe fares ever – from £114 return for 80 tier points

British Airways has launched some incredibly low Club Europe fares out of London Gatwick.

In fact, these are the cheapest Club Europe fares I have ever seen.  Back in October 2015 BA ran a flash sale offering seats at £150 return, but these deals beat that.

The lowest fare on offer is, admittedly, a niche one.  Nuremberg in Germany is £114 return for travel in late December to early January.

More mainstream destinations are also very cheap.  Barcelona is £140 return in Club Europe from London Gatwick, for example.

The maths is compelling:

You get 80 tier points for the flight, so at well under £2 per tier point this is worth considering for no other reason than it is a cheap way to earn or retain status.  As I note below, Catania is £215 return for 160 tier points.

Even a British Airways Blue member would earn 2,150 Avios for a return flight to Barcelona, so that is at least £20 of value coming straight back

You will get access to the impressive new British Airways Galleries lounges at Gatwick which we reviewed here

You will get the other benefits of Club Europe – fast track security (which works well at Gatwick), priority boarding, empty middle seat, a free meal and all the champagne you can get through

The best way to look at the available routes is via the Low Fare Finder tool on ba.com.   Click here, select ‘Europe’ and select ‘Business’.

This is what I see for travel between January and April for under £200 in Club Europe.  Remember that a 2-night minimum stay or a Saturday night may be required:

  • Alicante from £180 return
  • Amsterdam from £180 return
  • Barcelona from £140 return
  • Bilbao from £198 return
  • Bordeaux from £136 return
  • Friedrichshafen from £150 return
  • Geneva from £156 return
  • Genoa from £146 return
  • Innsbruck from £188 return
  • Limoges from £144 return
  • Luxembourg from £158 return
  • Lyon from £170 return
  • Malaga from £180 return
  • Nice from £180 return
  • Nuremberg from £114 return (late Dec / early Jan only)
  • Pisa from £196 return
  • Porto from £190 return
  • Rome from £186 return
  • Salzburg from £180 return
  • Seville from £170 return
  • Turin from £160 return
  • Venice from £180 return
  • Verona from £170 return

If you are after tier points, you should take a look at Catania in Sicily.  This is a 160 tier points route and is selling for as low as £215 return in May, June and July.  My article listing all of the 160 tier point Club Europe routes is here.

You should also have a look at the BA Holidays website here and do a dummy booking with a hotel or car hire added.  You might find it gets even cheaper.

Aside of the tier points Catania is a great place to visit. Seeing Mt Etna as you come in to land is awesome, but make sure you are on the right hand side of the plane. The town is full of interesting old architecture.

  • Andrew (@andrewseftel) says:

There are some excellent WT and WTP deals in there as well.

WT: £244 Abu Dhabi, Boston £300, Tokyo £525
    WTP: Abu Dhabi £419, Dubai £449, Beijing £606, Oakland £645, Calgary £664

The WTP fares will be an excellent way to get CW bookings if there’s award availability.

    • Rob says:

£244 is shockingly low given that Norwegian isn’t on the ME. £325 is the usual sale fare down there.

      • Chris says:

Can’t price AUH up as lower than £319, so I wonder if that was a mistake. As you say, little reason for them to go that low.

  • Mike says:

Just done a sample booking for Glasgow / Edinburgh to Pisa and it jumps from £196 to £356, London – Barcelona £410 from Glasgow or Edinburgh but £160 from London Gatwick. Shafted as usual. London Airways would be more appropriate.

  • Scott says:

OT – how do you register your Amex platinum with each of the hotels to get your status?

    • Rob says:

americanexpress.co.uk/platinum and fill in the online forms.

Do NOT let Amex open accounts for you. Open your own account first and supply Amex the number.

      • Rob says:

Rob, why do you say not to let Amex do this for you? I wish I’d known this before. For some of the hotels available with the Platinum card that I just signed up for a few weeks ago, this is unfortunately exactly what I have done and I’m still waiting for some hotels to come through as well as some issues with the numbers assigned for those that have been confirmed. Is this the reason why you suggest not to let Amex do this, or was there some other reason?

        • Rob says:

Because, as few chains now send out plastic cards, you will struggle to find out what membership number you’ve been given. And that’s before you try to find out the password they have created for you!

        • Rob says:

they list the membership number on the Amex Platinum site that you use to apply for the hotel membership, but i had problems with recognition of the membership number on the hotel website and then issues with the passwords (still to be resolved), so I know exactly what you mean now. Thanks.

  • jtz says:

Struggling to find cancellation terms on these packages, can anyone shed light?
    Also the economy flights
    Thanks

  • Mary-Elizabeth says:

Thanks so much for the heads up Rob! We got CE RT Gatwick to Naples over the long Easter bank holiday weekend for around 200 GBP each, which was only about 25 quid more than economy and gives us extra luggage allowance to bring back the delicious, delicious local wine.

  • Graham Law says:

£1145 CW to Jamaica most of next year if anyone’s interested.

  • Talay says:

Booked wife and kid onto LGW-AMS for later today at £180 return in business class, so £90 each way, versus a circa £113/130 each way charge in economy for many flights 🙂

Now I know I am a bit anal about programming but if you have some promotion discounting business class, then you should have it triggering an impact on economy fares. Having business class so much cheaper than economy and 2 x 32kg bags versus none is a joke.
