SAVE THE DATE: Head for Points Summer Party, Tuesday 3rd July

It’s happening! After having hosted successful Christmas parties over the last two years, we’re finally doing a Summer Party.

We are currently in the process of finalising everything but we can announce that we will be taking over The Glasshouse room at the Holiday Inn Camden Lock.  Because, let’s be honest, you haven’t been to Camden Market for years ….

Holiday Inn Camden Lock

The Glasshouse is a very bright room with a huge window front facing the canal – it is the ground floor space on the photo above.  It is a lovely spot for a Summer event.

The venue stretches over two floors with its own private bar and has a capacity of 250. This means we can host 100 more readers than at our Christmas parties.  We are paying for security so we can also open the doors to an outside area by the water.  Not sure why we need a security guard for this but that’s the hotel rule ….

Holiday Inn Camden Lock

We want our Summer party to be a more casual event.  There won’t be any (major) speeches and there won’t be a lengthy raffle.

There will be a full cash bar with normal Camden prices, which means £5ish for a beer, and a couple of sitting areas.

Because we need to ensure that people who ask for tickets turn up, we will be charging for tickets.

The party will be 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday 3rd July.  The bar will remain open for a while after 8pm for anyone who wants to stay longer, and of course there are no shortage of bars and restaurants in Camden if you want to carry on your evening elsewhere.

Tickets are £10 including VAT and will go on sale later this week.  This is half of the price of the Christmas party but we are not including any drinks this time.  If we can line up a headline sponsor in the next week or so then that may change ….

We will publish more details in another article in a couple of days.

There will be 250 tickets available. We hope that the larger venue will give more readers the chance to join us and also slow down the ticket sale process so they don’t all go in two minutes as at Christmas …..

We hope that you can come along to meet Rob and myself and to talk miles, points, credit cards and travel with other readers.  Bring a friend or come by yourself – you won’t struggle to find someone to share your stories with.

Nice one for arranging but like many HfPers I guess, won’t be able to make this one due to travel commitments. Enjoy.

  • Kumar says:

OT: Do BA honor error fares.I did book few hrs ago and the Eticket has been issued and I could see my booking on BA.com.I am very stressed after i booked the tickets at 2AM and couldn’t go back to bed.

    • the real harry1 says:

Sometimes, same as most airlines, depends on the size of the error, I guess. What did you get? Has it already been pulled?

    • shd says:

In the last few years BA have cancelled most ‘error fare’ tickets.

I got away with one in 2013 – a whopper – but haven’t bothered trying since.

    • Rob says:

      No they don’t!

    • Kumar says:

It was Dubai, Now the price has jumped from 650 to 2200 for easter long weekend.

  • Kumar says:

I paid 650GBP for three passengers in Economy.Destination is in this hint: One freedom route has been cancelled before Good Friday this year and another Freedom route will stop from this October. Both routes from LHR.I will see if Rob can answer it.Pls keep it to yourself for two weeks and just book yourself it they do honor it.

    • the real harry1 says:

OK sounds like it wasn’t Tel Aviv, then – that one is still open, £193 return on BA eg 5-8th August, Momondo or Skyscanner if anybody’s interested.

      • Nick says:

A propos of nothing in particular… but ‘error fares’ can only legally be cancelled if they are ‘clearly and manifestly’ a mistake. If it’s borderline they would lose a court case so wouldn’t even try. Use competitors as comparison, e.g…
        1. Harry’s Tel Aviv – £189 is cheap for BA but about average for Wizz/Sleazy, so would have to stand as you could argue it was clearly designed to be competitive
        2. £650 for three to (let’s say) America – well Virgin was openly selling a headline fare of £279pp return to Boston last week, so again this is plausible, but could be argued either way. They’d be unlikely to bother for 3 cheap economy though
        3. £360 CW return to Ecuador – no other airline even comes close, and Club capacity is scarcer than economy so they’d more likely want it back, so this can be demonstrated as a fare filing error.

        • lev441 says:

I’ve paid £240 on BA to TLV around 18 months ago, so £189 doesn’t look like a massive error fare (although almost definitely is as it’s available on every date!)

        • shd says:

Come on, it’s definitely an error fare if it’s full flex economy (booking class B, the second highest there is) sold at that price.

        • kumar says:

          Ba has cancelled my ticket.

      • LondonFoodie says:

Thank you Real Harry1!! Just booked for prime-time Passover for £540 for 3 pax. I’m 99.99% sure it will get canceled but worth a go. I owe you a drink at the summer party.

        • the real harry1 says:

I’ll have an ether Champagne right now, thanks! I reckon your flights will be honoured.

In a good mood as while I was at the Doc’s 20 mins ago (just a routine check), I asked about how advisable it was to get prostate check (@ 55). He only said, I’ll do it now, drop the kegs & get on the trolley! oops, Matron! Anyway, nothing to worry about after all, done in a flash, really & good to get the OK to the first physical check bit with PSA blood tests to follow.

    • @mkcol says:

What the heck is a Freedom route? 5th Freedom?

      • callum says:

The only thing I can come up with is the freedom you gain on the return flight from Dubai after you land in a more civilized (not that it always feels like it!) country…

    • David says:

      I’m stumped on this one…

  • Lee says:

Excellent! Great timing as I’m New York 3 days later, so I’ll be able to make it again.

  • Waribai says:

A fine venue indeed and in Camden too. Hopefully, the North West venue should please those who were calling for something a bit further North. Not so great for those of us south of the river but I’m always willing to compromise 🙂

    See you there!

    • Rob says:

You’re right, we heard the calls of those who wanted something in the north and here we are ????

It must be a good half mile further north the Melia at Christmas …..

      • RussellH says:

I thought that those of talking about “The North” were thinking Manchester, Liverpool or Newcastle?
        🙂

  • Alan says:

Enjoy, looks a good venue – not able to make it down and back for the evening though between working days.

  • Sapiens says:

    Cheers!
Rob and Anika – thanks for organizing. Tuesday is a good day for this Londoner.

    Looking forward to it!

  • Courtster says:

I love the HI Camden Lock, they let me upgrade to the penthouse for £50 a night over my points booking. Made for a great weekend.

    • Phil says:

At one stage you could book a penthouse suite at standard rates. Has that stopped now?

      • Crafty says:

The “penthouse” is a bit of a misnomer at this hotel. IIRC all top floor rooms are called penthouses. They’re nice but not worth getting excited about.
