This week IHG is running a great competition with us to promote their current special weekend offer at hotels in Manchester.

One lucky Head for Points reader will win 100,000 IHG Rewards Club points.

100,000 IHG Rewards Club points could get you:

between 7 and 20 PointBreaks nights if you save them for the next round of heavily-discounted redemptions

six free 15,000 point nights at a mid range property, such as a regional Holiday Inn

one (and a half!) free nights at a top-end IHG property such as the luxurious InterContinental Amstel in Amsterdam, or one of the InterContinental hotels in Paris, New York, London etc

20,000 Avios points – or 20,000 miles in most other major airline schemes – if you don’t want a hotel stay

You can find out more about IHG Rewards Club at their website here.

The reason for IHG’s generosity is their current 20% off Manchester weekends promotion, which is running until 7th September for stays until 31st December.

Save 20% on weekend stays at IHG hotels in Manchester

For bookings made by 7th September, for stays until the year end, IHG Reward Club members can book weekend stays at Manchester hotels at 20% off the standard rates.

The offer is valid at the Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Staybridge Suites and Crowne Plaza hotels in Manchester.

(A brand new combined Staybridge Suites and Crowne Plaza is due to open near Oxford Road on 9th September and is well worth considering.  The hotel site says it opens in August but you can’t actually book until 9th September.  Whilst not bookable under this offer, you can also look forward to Manchester’s first Hotel Indigo near Victoria Station next April.)

Stays must be completed by 31st December 2018.

Full details can be found on this special Manchester sale page of the IHG website.

If you are travelling to Manchester by train, you can also get 20% off your rail ticket.  IHG has teamed up with Virgin Trains who are offering 20% off advance off-peak fares to and from Manchester Piccadilly.  You will need to show your IHG hotel confirmation to the conductor on the train.

What you can win

There is one prizes of 100,000 IHG Rewards Club points to be won.

IHG Rewards Club points do not expire as long as you have some activity on your account (earning or spending) every 12 months, so you don’t need to worry about spending them in a hurry.

The prize is non-transferable to another person, non-exchangeable and cannot be converted to a cash alternative.

How to enter

To enter, you need to answer a multiple choice question about the brand new Staybridge Suites in Manchester, opening on 9th September.

The answer can be found on the Staybridge Suites Manchester Oxford Road website here!

We are using the same entry system we’ve been using for competitions in the past.  Simply fill out the Gleam app at the bottom of this post (or click through to the Gleam website) and leave your multiple choice answer, your name and email address.  That’s it.

The rules

Here is a summary of the rules. The official version can be found by clicking ‘Terms & Conditions’ in the entry widget below.

You must be at least 18 years old

You must be a resident of the United Kingdom and must be accessing this website from inside the UK

Entries are limited to one per person

The competition closes at midnight, London time, on Sunday 22nd July 2018

The winner will be selected automatically by the software which collates the entries. The winner will be contacted by email and must confirm their details, including their UK residency, within 3 days.

IHG Rewards Club points are not transferable and will only be deposited into an account in the name of the winner

Your details remain confidential and will not be passed to IHG (unless you win!).  Head for Points will not use your email address for any other purpose.

You do not need to have an IHG Rewards Club account in order to enter, although obviously the winner will have to open one!

The full list of rules is in the Gleam entry widget below.

If you cannot see the entry widget below – which is likely if you are reading this via email – please click here and you will be directed to a special website to enter.  The answer to the multiple choice question is on the Staybridge Suites Manchester website here.

Good luck.

Those were the days 😀 Mind you, judging by the 3k upwards entries on Gleam it would have made for some pretty boring comments sections now! I wonder how many are regular HfP readers and how many are from compo-entry pros!

  • Travel Strong says:

Excellent example of effective advertising. By taking me to a nice looking hotel landing page I thought for my next MAN flight ‘hmm actually I could stay over the night before instead of travelling up in the morning’ and am now browsing to make a booking.

  • Peter K says:

Thanks for the comp Anika & Rob ????

  • Cormac says:

    Completely O/T, but I was wondering if anyone can help me;

Does the Amex rule of waiting 6 months apply across personal and business cards? I cancelled my personal card 5 months ago but now need a business one. Should I wait one month to apply or will I get the bonus because it’s a different type of card?

    • Genghis says:

It’s to do with card currencies, not the cards. Wait one month.

  • Cormac says:

    Great, thank you, Genghis.

  • Hirsty says:

    Hey Rob

I’ve just had my 3rd Avios points claim, made via the “avios e store” for an IHG booking declined.
After the first time it was declined, (which was for a significant purchase of 28 nights in the USA) I resolved to ensure it didn’t happen again and took screengrabs of me making the purchase via the avios site.

However, after almost 5 months waiting as pending, I’ve just had a “declined” message from avios, saying IHG dont believe I completed “the final step” via the avios site.

Both of these two declines are for thousands of points, whereas in-between, a shorter stay of 1 night, was approved. All booked and documented from the same laptop, same browser, etc.

Can’t help but feel IHG are attempting to weasel out of their commitment due to the large bookings made.

    Anyone else had similar experience?

    • Ahop says:

I had exactly the same but with another vendor. Extremely frustrating but got nowhere trying to fight it.

    • Marcw says:

The last time it took 14 month from purchase – to Avios landing. I was shocked when I saw the Avios in the account!

    • Doug M says:

If you get any spend them quick, random reversals months later quite common too. Apart from Apple I find almost all other Avios store poor and untrustworthy. Hilton very moody, hotels.com never give stated points always less, Microsoft and HP random later reversals. No idea whether the retailers or Avios at fault, but it’s unreliable. I had two hotels.com stays that didn’t track. Avios say can’t investigate until 90 days after checkout. At that point they’ll say the matter is too old to investigate as they were booked too long ago.
I’d say this area is ripe for investigation and consumer law protection.

  • ChrisC says:

Don’t think the linked virgin trains offer is working. Compared the prices on the search engine generated by following the offer link to national rail and they are the same – so no 20% discount. And this was for an off peak trip over a weekend

    • ChrisC says:

As the hotel offer is for bookings made between 3 and 21 days before arrival so it’s impossible to book a stay in October let’s alone up to 31st December because the offer closes on the 7th September.
