Saw this last night, now official: [Iberia Plus has just announced a new promotion with a 50% discount on Avios to fly from Madrid to New York, Boston or Chicago between January 14 and March 31, 2019.
Tickets can be roundtrip or one way, in both directions (that is, in the USA-Madrid direction they also work) and only in economy class. They must be purchased before December 31st.]

OT – after hitting shop small hard, all my cards have been ‘suspended’ – first I heard of this were emails saying Apple Pay cards had been suspended, no other contact. Physical cards just get declined. Apparently I have to speak with the ‘credit review team’ who are only open 9-5.. anyone been through this? Bit ridiculous as I’ve barely put through 1/10th of my credit limit and happy to pay it off manually today if that helps please them..

    • Shoestring says:

Somebody on these boards had it happen LY & it took 3 months to resolve!

    • Mark2 says:

      how many purchases per card?

      • AJ says:

I’ve done around 15 since Saturday. So nothing crazy but would be out of my usual spend pattern I guess. They can’t go round advertising shop small everywhere then not expect people to take advantage of it!

        • TGLoyalty says:

Doesn’t sound excessive. 15 transactions in a weekend.

        • JPa says:

Was it 15 on one card or 15 on each card? Or split across many accounts? How many supplementary cards do you have on it? How quickly were the 15 done, all same day? Trying to get some datapoints to see what might had set off alarm bells!

    • LewisB says:

I’ve not had a single confirmation email for Small Shop, anyone else finding this? I’ve been avoiding contactless from advice in the comments here at hfp.

      • AJ says:

I’ve had credits through for Saturday’s transactions only and they came through Monday morning. I’m hearing some have had Sunday’s post already but others, like you, haven’t had any yet. Hopefully it won’t turn into a classic Amex shambles.. you’d have thought they’d be prepared after all these years..

      • SimonW says:

Have had no emails and no credits since a few spends on Sunday and offer has disappeared from one of my cards. Chat last night said card is still enrolled, ignore the lack of emails – they are aware of it, and credits will still hit within 5 days. We shall see….

        • JPa says:

It moves from the Saved to Card tab to the Savings tab for the places you have shopped at when you start using it. The Savings tab seems quite new (and on one card has every spend x get x offer I had done since 2012 and the amount I had saved!)

I have mostly been getting emails when using you chip and pin but not always, and sometimes for contactless. Some credits are starting to come through now from the weekend (were cotractless payments)

        • Alan says:

Agree only spotted the Savings tab on Monday – nice addition. Even though my Morrison’s 10% back hasn’t posted yet it’s already showing in Savings – plus got emails each time. That’s £1,400 put through so far, nice having 10% off at Amazon 🙂

      • Gavin says:

Not had any emails at all but had a credit from Saturday hit on Monday. Awaiting subsequent credits.

        • ADS says:

i did my first SS purchase yesterday – using contactless
it hasn’t even appeared in my pending items yet !
          no email either !!

    • ShopSmall says:

I imagine AMEX will bar you.

Have you spoken to their credit review team?

    • AJ says:

An update – called them up and apparently they’ve taken the decision to cancel my accounts…! No explanation. Requested a manager callback. Ridiculous, this is not the way they should treat a long standing customer. If they were unhappy about taking advantage of their heavily advertised promotion then they could have called me and raised their concern. Though my cards do not show as “Cancelled” they just show as “Suspended” for now.

      • Shoestring says:

Hard luck – that is absolutely pathetic from Amex. Cards cancelled for such a low number of SS transactions!!!???!!!

Did you by any chance split the same purchase into £10 chunks, eg £50 joint of beef paid over 5 cards?

I’ve sometimes thought that was slightly taking the proverbial – but did it several times in the past.

        • AJ says:

Yes, all my transactions were £10 chunks. Done it in previous years (not as many supp. cards though) and know numerous other people who do the same thing. It’s frustrating how they’ve just cancelled everything outright rather than asking to stop first. I’d have complied!

        • xcalx says:

A couple of butchers in Yeadon LS19 charge £10 to each card then give you a credit note for the total that you can then spend it as and when.

        • AJ says:

I have a feeling how this might have happened. I had 2 ‘fraud’ blocks over the weekend. Each time I called they had to do a quick ‘manual review’ of my account – took around 20mins and they called back on both occasions saying ok, you’re good to go now. I suspect one or both of those, they saw all the £10 transactions and contacted another department.

I don’t understand why my account shows as ‘suspended’ and not ‘cancelled’ though. Odd – hoping to get more clarity when manager calls back. Poor form from Amex

        • EwanG says:

@AJ Potentially you won’t get any SS credits at all if all of your accounts have been cancelled. See offer T&Cs, clause D. “If your card is suspended or cancelled, we do not credit your account with credit or points even if you have met the offer spend criteria.”

Clause G covers ‘gaming’ the offer. “American Express reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual suspected of fraud, gaming the offer or any breach of the Offer Terms” so this would seem the reason for cancelling your accounts, however you could argue it is unclear what they mean by ‘gaming’ without further explanation, and as you said they could have contacted you if they had concerns, rather than a straight cancel. I would push to get their compliance and legal teams involved in reviewing their decision, quoting “treating customers fairly”.

        • Jon says:

AJ, were nearly all your transactions for exactly £10 and split across multiple cards at the same shop at the same time?

      • Shop Small says:

        Time to pull the map?

      • Alan says:

Wow that’s a pretty shocking reply from Amex – look forward to hearing what the manager says as seems a very weird decision. Agree with EwanG re the ‘treating customers fairly’ magic words. Gaming terminology also very vague indeed.

    • nick says:

      Oh No!

Exact same thing happened to me last year! took over 3 months to resolve in the end.
not going to be pleasant. My guess is you probably were using your cards including supps in the same shop within seconds of each other? Multiple oyster top ups?

Go straight to the executive relations office!

      • AJ says:

Hi Nick – would I be able to get in touch with you privately? Would like to know how you resolved this one as Amex are being stubborn (also has happened to a friend). If you pick up this, please email me on: ac.reply [at..] icloud.com – Cheers!

OT anyone know if the points will be lost If I cancel a flight on Iberia site for a flight I booked with the “90000” points.

  • Mark says:

Does this code work with the 2500 bonus points for booking early on the dreams sale?

    • Rob says:

Should do – put it this way, can’t see why not. It won’t double the 2,500 though.

  • Mikeact says:

‘Bits’ Remember the Tesco offer last October? Re 20% bonus for converting Avios ? I personally had forgotten about it. However, I notice this morning a big bonus stash is now showing in my BA account …. very welcome.

  • Jonty says:

O/T If anyone’s missing IHGs where’s Iggy snow globe shake up this year, SBB (Swiss railways) has an easy to enter advent calendar game, and DB (German railways) has a weird snake-game thing that seems impossible to play on a smartphone.

    • ankomonkey says:

      I’d forgotten about Iggy!

    • Nico G says:

myswitzerland.com has an advent calendar with different prizes every day. A quick google search should find it

    • Alan says:

I’ll just be glad if Norwegian give me the prize of not keeping on moving about my EDI-OSL positioning flight for next month! So far now moved by 5h, very glad I booked to fly out the day before just in case given both BA and Norwegian have now totally changed their flight times!

  • LewisB says:

Is there demand in Italy for a BA avios earning Visa card?

  • Lloyd says:

OT: Is it possible to transfer my wife’s Amex MR to my Krisflyer account? I put my Krisflyer account number in when it asked what account number to transfer the points to, and it accepted it, but haven’t tried to do the transfer yet in case I lose the points!
If it is possible, as I will need to waitlist for the redemption I want (2 seats on the same flight), is it better to have all the points in my account and waitlist for 2 tickets on multiple flights, or to transfer points to individual Krisflyer accounts, waitlist multiple flights in both and hope that both clear on the same flight?

    • Ryan says:

In my experience, especially if you have the same address/surname on both your Amex and Krisflyer accounts, it should go through. I have done this many times without any issues, but your mileage may vary. Worst case, the transfer would fail…

    • Rob says:

Varies partner by partner, some may accept just a surname match. Do a test, they will bounce back if rejected.
