  I need to book 3 nights in Scottsdale for the last minute work trip. Any advice on best Avios earner for someone else paying? Going on the BA amex probably. I have used rocket miles before but it seems unreasonably pricey?

  OT – Checked in my bags on my AA flight to JFK this morning at SEA and she printed the labels. Check in lady then said was JFK my final destination and I said no. LHR was and he’s my BA ticket/boarding pass (Separate bookings). So she said let me see if I can check my bags all the way through. After a few minutes she said here we go. She says you have to trick the system. Very pleased no need to re check baggage.

    That´s the case with AA. It is somewhere buried in the T&C that AA alows luggage check in to final destination on different tickets, as long as there are AA, or onto oneworld (maybe other carriers as well, but don´t know exactly).

    Good result. Managed to persuade QF staff at BNE to check my bag in to OSL even though SYD-LHR-OSL was on a separate booking. FlyerTalk had a handy thread with link to their internal document confirming it was allowed when travelling on a mix of revenue/reward bookings 😀

  Way off topic.

  We’re looking at taking a Cunard cruise in 2020 and I was checking possibilities when I found news articles on several us sites that say that Cunard are offering a one cabin level upgrade on some booking made before February 28th. I.e. inside cabin to outside cabin etc.

  I couldn’t find anything on Cunard UK but it was a feature on Cunard US but seem to have disappeared. Cunard UK seem unaware of rhe offer which was ‘trumpeted’ by a Senior Vice President.

  Any one with any ideas of how to snag one of these.

  OT – flying club europe with my 3 year old in 2 days and noticed BA allocated us separated seats… while I can see there are still pairs of seats available, I need to pay 24£ to change… both seats! Neither of us has free seat next so can’t just change one. Seems BA has become as bad as Ryanair and separate on purpose? Is this something new as it’s the first time I’m in this situation? I’m sure someone will be happy to switch (and avoid seating next to a 3 year old…), but still I find this quite irritating.

    Phone up – CAA gives strong advice to airlines that children MUST be seated next to a parent.

    No need to pay.

      Had a fun experience of easyJet yesterday. I had 1C. Someone had booked themselves into 1B and put their girlfriend further down the plane in a far cheaper seat. He then asked to me to move down the plane so they could sit together. That went well, obviously …

        On a long overnight flight a couple of years ago when my son was 11 (I.e. too young for an exit row seat), I paid for the middle and aisle exit row seats for me & my OH, and put son across the aisle from us in the middle row. The couple sitting next to him were almost giddy with excitement, thinking we would offer up our exit row seats to them so we could sit with son (who was only two feet away anyway!) Imagine their disappointment when we avoided all eye contact with them and stayed quiet 😂

      Anyway, should be a doddle to move you both to adjoining seats for free @T-24 hrs, if you’re only 2 days away and there are still plenty of free pairs in CE

      BA policy says ‘we will make sure anyone under 12 sits with an adult from your party’. I certainly wouldn’t pay – it will sort itself out

    Simon Calder did a TV segment on this quite recently. He said that the legal position is that the plane shouldn’t take off if parents and young children are seated more than one row apart as it breaches safety regulations and strongly encouraged passengers to challenge cabin crew if this is not adhered to. BA has sunk to new depths by trying this on and I would be alerting the CAA if they did this to me. Even if you manage to change seats, you can do without that kind of stress when traveling with children!

  OK first bit is fine – story in today’s Mail says Monese customers can now see their Avios points balance on the Monese app. So far so so-so. But it goes on to claim:

  Customers will also eventually be able to pay each other in Avios.]

    Avios Group invested X million GBP in one of the Monese funding rounds – so I´m not suprised. But then i´m not impressed by the feature. There was (is) a bit of it in HfP

      Monese is the wrong horse for Avios, I think. It is aimed at the unbanked who are so happy to get an account that they will pay £1 for an ATM withdrawal. How does the wealthy BAEC customer base fit into this? We’ll see, however, as I think you’re going to be hearing a lot more from them. It may even lead to them improving their offer.

        If they ever launch deposits paid in Avios… then eventually it may be interesting. Or god knows, maybe Monese will launch the new BA Avios… or maybe it’s just all crap (likely)
