Marriott Bonvoy has launched its first ‘bonus points’ promotion since the scheme launched last month.

You can register here.

Here are the key points:

The promotion is called “Double Take”

It runs from 19th March to 4th June (registration closes 21st May)

You will receive double base points on all paid stays, starting with your 2nd paid stays after 19th March

All 6,700 hotels across all 29 hotel brands are taking part

Marriott Bonvoy Spring 2019 double points offer

The 29 brands you can stay at to earn bonus points include: AC Hotels, Aloft, Autograph, Courtyard, Delta Hotels, Design Hotels, Edition, Element, Fairfield Inn, Four Points, Gaylord, Le Meridien, Marriott, Protea, Renaissance, Residence Inn, St Regis, Sheraton, The Luxury Collection, The Ritz-Carlton, Springhill Suites, Towneplace Suites, W and Westin.

What is the Marriott bonus worth?

I value a Marriott Bonvoy point at 0.5p.

You usually earn 10 points per $1 spent on eligible hotel charges, except at Element, Residence Inn and TownePlace Suites hotels, where you earn five points per eligible $1.  Status bonuses are on top of this, but those are not doubled.

Assuming a 0.5p (0.66 cents) valuation, you are getting an additional return of 6.6% of your spending.

What are your other hotel promo options?

Looking at the other two major chains ….

IHG has brought back a version of its Accelerate promotion.  Everyone gets different personalised targets and, in general, they seem more generous this quarter than they have for a while.  You need to hit your targets before 30th April.  You can register here.

Hilton‘s latest offer is worth 2,000 bonus points per stay, with an extra 10,000 points for every five stays or ten nights before 5th May – register here.

Radisson Rewards has an excellent deal if you can manage 20 nights before 31st March, which admittedly is a tough call if you are starting now!  You would earn 120,000 bonus points which I’d value at £400.  There are smaller bonuses for completing a smaller number of nights but they are not as generous.  You can register here.

World of Hyatt is offering 1,000 bonus points per night (1,500 at its budget brands) until 15th May which would be an excellent result for longer stays.  The bonus only starts on your second stay after registration.  The registration link is in this article.

The new Marriott Bonvoy offer does not compare well if you are doing shorter stays at cheaper brands, because Hilton and Hyatt are both offering fixed bonuses which are worth a larger % rebate on a low-cost hotel.

The real value with the new Marrott Bonvoy offer is on longer, more expensive stays.  In an extreme scenario, if you were expecting to spend £1,500+ in one go, you might even want to do a cheap mattress run at a local Marriott first so you get the ‘bonus starts on your 2nd stay’ hurdle out of the way.

Register now

It makes sense to register for this new Marriott Bonvoy offer now.  It runs until the 4th June and registration cuts off early on 21st May.  Remember that only stays from 19th March count.

If it looks like your registration did not work and you get an error message, it probably is OK.  Go to ‘Promotions’ by clicking on your name (top right corner) and you will see ‘Double Take’ showing as registered.  That’s what happened to me, anyway.

Click here to visit the registration page on the Marriott website.

So I checked my promotions on the app. I got an exclusive for you offer as well as the one mentioned. Not sure if anyone else got one too? Mine is earn 22,500 after just two eligible paid stays. The earning period is three months it says it starts the day after registration through the end of the month plus the following two months.

    • Rob says:

These were sent out a few weeks ago, we did an article. A lot of people got a targeted offer.

      • Youngtraveller says:

Oh yeah I remember now. When I went at the time to my promotions I didn’t get anything, I’m just wondering if they will give the points for both promotions or just one at a time.

  • Tariq says:

Still haven’t had any points from the last promotion. Approaching Accors level of waste of time.

  • Thorv says:

Can’t see anywhere in the T&Cs regarding stays already booked. Can anyone confirm points will be received for bookings made prior to registration?

    Cheers

    • Rob says:

You do with Marriott, yes. Only Accor has a problem with pre-booked stays during promos.

  • John says:

OT-ish: on the current Bonvoy transfer bonus to Avios. As hoped, the 30% bonus was also applied on the 5000 bonus for transferring 60000 points, so 60000 Bonvoy returned 32500 Avios

    • The Original Nick says:

      thanks John, good to know.

    • TGLoyalty says:

That’s because marriott send your Avios including the 5k bonus and as far as BA are concerned you were sent 25k Avios then add a 30% bonus 🙂

  • Navara says:

Enjoy VIP Hospitality with Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport in Melbourne, Australia
    Packages starting at: 95,000 points

  • Johnjohn says:

No promotion or offers at all once logged in.

  • YC says:

Any idea if you will get double bass points on incidental spending (F&B, spa, etc)?

    • Rob says:

Yes, you will – although probably not if non-resident or on reward stays.

      • YC says:

Sorry might be a dumb question, what is a non-resident stay?

        • ChrisC says:

someone not staying in the hotel but someone who just goes in to use the bar / restaurant

      • TGLoyalty says:

Don’t you receive points on incidental spend when on rewards stays with Marriott?

        • Russ says:

You can get them on your parking at the hotel but you must pay at the desk not at the barrier.

        • Rob says:

You do but it would not be a qualifying stay under the terms of the promo.

  • Tony says:

Just tried the link “You can register here” and getting a message “You may have received this message because the page you seek is no longer available on the Marriott website.”

    • Richi Jennings says:

me too. And the Promotions page shows nothing available.

      • Rob mc says:

        +1

      • Pareet says:

I had the same problem with Firefox.
Tried again with Chrome and it appeared. When I then tried to log in I received the same error message

    • Andrew Petty says:

Same problem on both the UK and .com marriott sites Nothing in promotional centurion either site
