Marriott Bonvoy has launched its annual Wimbledon Centre Court tennis redemptions.  This year, there is an additional ‘buy it now’ deal available for the pre-Wimbledon exhibition tournament at The Hurlingham Club.

Let’s look at Wimbledon first.

Marriott has teamed up with ex-Wimbledon champion Stan Smith again.  There are 8 pairs of Centre Court tickets up for auction.  The date is Tuesday 9th July, which is the second week and will feature the Ladies Quarter Finals.

Historically these packages have included a group lunch but this does not seem to be the case this year.  You do get a ‘meet and greet’ with Stan during the day, however.  You can bid here, with a minimum bid of 75,000 Bonvoy points required.

If you want to get an idea of value, buying the same tickets via wimbledondebentureholders.com – the main resale website – would cost £2,300 per pair.

The second set of packages are for the Aspall Tennis Classic tournament at The Hurlingham Club in Fulham, which is the week before Wimbledon.  This is more of a garden party atmosphere and is recommended if you are less bothered about the tennis and more bothered about having a pleasant day out in the sun.

Marriott has packages for Thursday 27th June.  You get:

  • Canapé reception
  • Two-course gourmet lunch
  • Three exhibition tennis matches
  • Use of a private box
  • Afternoon tea

This is a ‘buy it now’ redemption priced at 45,000 Bonvoy points for two tickets.  You can redeem here.  There were four pairs remaining as of last night.

Alternatively, you can bid (not ‘buy it now’) for the same package on Wednesday 26th June, but this comes with a tennis lesson from one of the ‘legends’ playing in the tournament.  You can bid for this one here.

OT but on the Lloyds thing, has anyone else not received a letter about the fate of their cards yet? I’ve had nothing, my online account still has the Amex number as the primary account number, everything still functions as it should (as well as it can for Lloyds)…

Not complaining, I’d love it to continue for at least a few more months.

    • Yawn says:

I think they sent them out in batches. I received my letter late Feb/early March, when quite a few people on this forum reported receiving them.

      • guesswho2000 says:

Thanks, I remember that happening, I’m sure Rob said the last batch was that which went out in Feb/March, but maybe not?
Unless I just haven’t received the letter for some reason, I can’t be the only one who hasn’t got it, so maybe there’s more to come. If so, the sixty days will take me into my next year, so fingers crossed I’ll be able to get one last voucher!

        • Ben says:

I still haven’t received mine either m. Though did manage to earn another voucher for this year

    • Anna says:

They have said they intend to close the cards in June, though they will need to get a move on now to give everyone 60 days’ notice. People seem to be getting the opportunity to earn another voucher, even though the cards may change in the meantime.

      • Nigel says:

Oh I’m oh so very confused by the voucher situation.

On the letter I got at the end of Feb, it said I could earn another voucher in the upcoming year, but when speaking to Lloyds CS, they say it finishes when we get the new cards.

        • GJS says:

I got the same information over the phone, but my letter very clearly says I have until April 2020.

        • Anna says:

You’ve got it in writing, keep hold of that letter!

    • The Streets says:

I think they tie in sending the letter around your renewal date

    • Adam says:

I still haven’t had the notification either. And my card year started again in April. I also get t nee cards due to passing their expiry date. So there’s a bit of life left in it for me anyway!

    • Richard says:

I’m the same (no letter yet) and my card year ends early June. Optimistically hoping. I can trigger another voucher after June!

  • JAMES says:

Qatar: Another example of singletons being fleeced 🙁

  • BJ says:

Not being able to use the voucher seems odd. I always got the impression the CSA just removed it from your account and adjusted the number of avios charged.

    • Anna says:

Yes – the whole thing should be able to be done manually, as when they add on regional connections.

  • Andrew says:

OT – AMEX25OFF code *might* be working again. Just did for me. See comment on Friday’s article.

    • Relaxo says:

Yes I used it to buy 2 bottles of scotch at 1am this morning. Mine was a new card being linked for first time though.

    • SM says:

Didn’t work yesterday, tried again just now and worked.

    • Eric the Half a Bee says:

Thanks Andrew. Just tried and worked for me. Previously linked Amex Plat.

    • Annabelle says:

Thanks!! Works for me too. Used on my amazon business account too – Card already linked. Had to enter code couple of times. Says not applicable or something then to tick box ‘use £25 promotion’ appears.

    • john says:

Thanks. Worked here too. New amex card, on an amazon account that had used code before. 22 points for 10p reduction!

    • Peter K says:

      Thank you. Really appreciate that!

    • Shoestring says:

      Got it on our 6th A/c 🙂

      No more cat food!

2 bottles of The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 70 cl (headline £22 each, bit cheaper for me)

      • Freddy says:

The entire amazon site and I’m struggling to see what I should add for £40 – if only i had a cat or something

        • Shoestring says:

Buy 2 bottles of my whisky (see above) – great for presents even if you don’t drink it yourself. Prime only – get a free Prime month (no obligation, can cancel today and keep the free month)

OT: I’m looking to book my first Avios redemptions by going to Mykonos from London Stansted.

I was interested in flying British Airways Club Europe. But not sure what kind of service I would receive as the route is using Embraer E190 aircraft.

As the seat formation is 2×2, clearly I won’t get the full Club Europe experience. But is the food, drink and entertainment offering the same in Economy as it is in Club Europe?

Off peak is 17,000 Avios for Economy. It is 34,000 Avois for Club Europe. Plus taxes.

Any advice would be really appreciated!

    • Andrew says:

These routes are like the LCY routes and will offer a free G&T etc and mini bag of crisps in Traveller and a full meal service as per LHR standards in Club – but like you say, you won’t have the middle seat free and you’ll just be using No1 Lounge etc at STN as there’s no BA/OW lounge there.

      • Genghis says:

        Go economy.

      • Shoestring says:

There are plenty here who wouldn’t dream of wasting Avios on a CE redemption in Europe for a 4 hr flight. On the Embraer, Economy gets drinks & a snack in Economy anyway, maybe a lesser snack than in CE but so faffing what. Do you have 2x 32kg luggage or can you cope with 23kg?
Is the lounge both ends worth £170 in Avios points spent?

      • Lady London says:

Doesnt that aircraft only have tiny space over the seats and lots of luggage has to be gate checked/ left at bottom of aircraft stepq?

      • Kenny says:

The lounge which is used by BA is good at Stanstead.. was surprised with the array of hot food…

    • ChrisBCN says:

You will get better food plus champagne and anything else you’d like to drink for the 4 hour flight. If that, plus being first off in Mykonos and lounge access is worth the difference in Avíos to you then it’s worth it.

It’s a tiny treat to start your trip, it’s if course not worth 170 ish pounds worth of Avíos In cold hard cash terms. It depends how much that sum means to you!

    • Gin and Tonic Please says:

I go to Mykonos every year on the Embraers (usually from City) and virtually never take the CE upgrade. The legroom in economy is great – much better than CE on a normal BA short haul. The food and drinks are fine, but you may want to take some extra snacks with you as portions are not huge. It’s not unusual for drinks (or ice) to run out on the return flight. If that’s important to you, then CE will give you a better chance of getting what you want.

  • Gerry says:

Further to my comment posted yesterday re Lloyd’s voucher. I booked return flights to Zone 3 on redemption two weeks ago. I have BA ref etc but my voucher runs out today. I still have not been able to pay due to Zone 3 ‘upgrade’ causing grief to their system. Called them yesterday and they still don’t know when things will be corrected as the ‘techie guys are working on it’. The systems don’t seem to like BA’s new ideas on costs for Zone 3 redemptions. I will update this when I get more info. They have noted the situation re my voucher deadline and said it won’t be an issue……

    • Stuart says:

My voucher also runs out today.
When I called to book Athens yesterday the Agent said their system did not even allow them to search for zone 3 destinations.
She asked me to email customer relations.
After receiving no response to my email and being told the same thing by two more agents I booked a flight to Munich instead rather than risk losing the voucher.

      • EwanG says:

Gerry and Stuart, have you tried contacting Lloyds to see what they can/could do?
Lloyds might try to fob you off to BA but you earned the voucher by spending on a Lloyds card under their T&Cs, and you should be looking to Lloyds to make this right and put pressure on BA to fix this, even if that means BA backing out this Zone 3 upgrade change.

  • Tom1 says:

IHG creation – I got rejected by the eligibility checker.

Has anyone found a way to appeal ?

    • Shoestring says:

How does that work? Have you actually applied & been rejected? Or is the eligibility checker the same as applying?

Seems a bit strange to appeal an eligibility check.

MSE eligibility checker on credit cards makes the point that no decision is ever guaranteed (acceptance or rejection) – & far from it.

      • Tom1 says:

Unless I’m doing it wrong, the eligibility checker is a soft search before an application from what I can see. I tried twice (as soft search only) and got rejected both times.
I know other cards’ eligibility checkers aren’t indicative of the actual result, but in this case I can’t see a way past it.

        • Tom1 says:

          “You’re not eligible to apply
Based on our scoring you have not passed our eligibility check.

Our decision is based upon information we have received from a Credit Reference Agency. To understand how we make our decisions, please click for more information.”

    • Qwerty Bertie says:

This won’t help you, sorry, but just my own related experience for reference. I tried eligibility checker twice in one sitting, once for each card. When entering my income it asked me to confirm each time due to it being over a certain threshold, then reported I was eligible for the lesser card but ineligible for the premium one due to them being concerned I might not be able to afford the repayments!

      • tom1 says:

interesting… I didn’t realise there were two different checkers.. or is it just one checker that tells if eligible for both cards? if that’s the case… I was not eligible for either 🙁

  • Richard says:

Sorry O/T, looks like we’ve had a plane change on LGW-SKG (Thessaloniki) as no row 1 showing on the seat map on the D/F side. Any idea what plane this would be? It’s not showing aircraft type in the booking info. An E-190???
