More Hilton Honors McLaren factory tours announced for points redemptions

Hilton Honors has arranged another tour of the McLaren F1 factory at the Norman Foster-designed McLaren Technology Centre in Woking.

The date is Wednesday 26th June.  The cost is 100,000 Hilton Honors points for two people and includes lunch in a private room.  There were four packages left at 10pm last night.

No time is given but, as it says there is a lunch after the tour, I presume it is in the morning.

The factory is not normally open to the public so this is a rare opportunity to take a look inside.  Reader Nick, who tipped me off about this one, enjoyed his first one so much that he booked himself on the next one too!

You can redeem your points for a pair of tickets here.

OT: Sorry but need a bit of help. I need to cancel flights and accom which I booked via Amex Travel to take advantage of the various offers earlier in the year. This is due to partner’s ill health. Insurance should cover the cancellation. Do I cancel via Amex or with BA directly?

    • Michael says:

Amex travel i’d say. Give them a call and they can hopefully direct you.

    • Rob says:

Speak to your insurance company first and see what the process is and what docs they will need. Amex Travel is your contract party so it needs to be with them.

      Thanks both

    Amex Plat Car rental insurance

Is the coverage for a short term rental within say London? If I reside in London?

For example, I rent a car from Avis for just 6 hours? Can I avoid all the optional insurance being offered?

EVRent do a tesla for £96 a day, optional insurance of £40 per day? Can I avoid paying the £40 and have amex pay out up to £50k?

    • EvilDoctorK says:

It used to be the case that it had to be part of a ‘trip’ which was defined in such away as it would exclude rentals near home … I think that requirement may not be there any more .. and even when it was I successfully claimed on it .. but best check the policy document which is on their site.

    • Lady London says:

Isn’t the list price of a tesla a little higher than 50K? so you could still find yourself out of pocket potentially.

      • Tesla owner says:

        Eh, no?

      • Rooster says:

The model S/X has a list price of at least 60k for the ones they have available, also there maybe limits to sports cars or cars that are fast at accelerating

    • Rooster says:

There is also no way that they will let you have the car without their insurance if £20 a day, excess perhaps

  • Ezhil Suresh says:

    Rob,
Good day. LHR-BLR BA has been on a 777 so far and not 787 as mentioned in the article. Great to know that from New Year this route gets the new suite.

    Best Regards

Anyone used Amex/amazon £25 off recently? Tried and failed yesterday

    • MarkH says:

      Same.
Have a few things I want to buy but waiting for the code to start working again… hopefully…

  • Lady London says:

weird. another outlet suddenly displayed this pricing a few weeks ago – we all thought it was a mistake.

Evidently not, and even the purchase price of avios through this sort of channel seems to be being pushed up.

“don’t touch it with a bargepole”, indeed

OT – Amex MR accounts. Are chat agents able to combine MR accounts? Added a new green card to one our accounts today with the intention of cancelling the plat so I can keep the rewards account active, but when I added it the green and plat have separate MR balances. Chat agent tells me they can’t do it and I need to call CS. Is this correct in others’ experience or did I just get a duff chat agent?

    • Steve says:

Chat can do it but it requires a form they need to submit to the MR department which then has a 10 day turnaround, apparently if you call it can be done within 24hrs. I opted for chat to do it since I had gone through the security and patiently waited 5 mins for the agent to come back to me with the options
