Emirates Skywards has made a LOT of tickets for the Rugby World Cup available for redemption with Skywards miles.

You can find out more on this page of the Emirates site (log-in required).  You need to look in two places – some tickets are being auctioned whilst others are direct redemptions.  All tickets include the chance for your child (10-16 years) to be a flag bearer.

The snag, of course, is that you need to get yourself to Japan ….

American Express Membership Rewards points transfer INSTANTLY from Amex to Emirates Skywards as long as your accounts are already linked.

I can only see RWC packages that include the flag bearer opportunity. The article implies that there are some packages just offering tickets but I am unable to see these – is there a specific page for this?

    • Nog says:

Skybid tickets are at the top of the page

      • Robin says:

Even within the Skybid section, I can still only see packages offering flag bearer opportunity (except the final).

        • Marco says:

They are all flag bearer packages, even the final, the flag bearer package includes between 2-4 tickets

          • Zed says:

I only need a single ticket for the Semis and final. Anyone want to go halves on an auction?

    • Rob says:

      Have amended.

    “BA drops Kiev”

    It’s okay BA, there’s a 5 second rule

    • Jamie says:

The thing with BA is that you have to buy the breadcrumbs and garlic sauce separately.

    • Bill says:

      Ryanair operate it

      • Lottie says:

We flew with Ryanair to Kiev last December , first time we have flown with them for years. BA’s flights were so expensive we could drive to Stansted, stay overnight in a hotel and still save half. Flight was packed both ways.

Photo above of the Qatar seating if First Class seating not Business Class.

Shame about LED, I have been doing this route for years. Always busy in J on a Monday and Thursday / Friday. Often the same people. Just booked the last return flight back, the station manager has been there for years and dispatched nearly everyone of my flights.

As well as a lot of wealthy Russian traffic on the Monday flights you see a lot of tourist groups, yes the visa is a pain but it isn’t stopping people.

Now it will be SU from LGW. The DME/SVO connections on BA are crazy money and take too long.

  • Joe C says:

Rob, Qatar have retired all of their A340-600’s now

  • Alex Sm says:

It’s a big shame and a shortsighted move by BA re KBP and LED. I flew on both routes several times. On both BA had no direct competition from LHR. Perhaps, this backfired on BA, as fares are crazy. I’m going to St Pete in June and BA direct economy return was £600+ and I got LH business return via Munich with similar timings only for £420.

Also, I can accept that sanctions and visas could be an impediment in the case of St Pete. But Kiev has none of these in place and its fate is still the same… so, it might be some crazy person at BA who simply doesn’t like Eastern Europe and decided to drop the routes instead of thinking how to develop them

    • LewisB says:

Flew to KBP with BA myself last year, both legs were packed. Paid cash too, fare was around £120 return with no bags. On the return however we were all met by border control and I got heavily interrogated on why I was in Ukraine. They wouldn’t even let us leave the air bridge!

  • Judge says:

Very surprised by LED and KBP. Flights always busy and seats not exactly cheap. Would not have expected these routes to be loss making. As far as LED is concerned, Rob is right about the visa being a major barrier to travel (though essentially we suffer from reciprocal measures in response to Western requirements for Russian citizens), but if there were no visa they would have needed several flights a day given this one was already busy.

    • Judge says:

It always seemed that much of Club Europe (which I’ve seen as much as ~12 rows back to LED) was filled with North American passengers travelling via LHR. That will be lost premium traffic too, as presumably these passengers will travel from North America via CDG, AMS or FRA in future. All very hard to understand.

    • Mr. AC says:

Same here. Very surprised and sad about both. Fly KBP often and was considering LED, will have to change plans a bit maybe before they are gone…. Has anyone flown Ukraine International? Is it, well, safe?…

      • ankomonkey says:

Flew them over Easter for first time. Felt safe. No complaints, although they are basically an LCC. They had by far the best flight times for the trip we were making and were 2/3 of the price of the next cheapest option.

OT: What are Amex’ rules about refunds of spending contributing to making sign up bonus targets? I have recently taken out a Platinum Amex and am about to buy an Avios ticket, with the associated fees which will probably take me over the spend threshold. However the Avios ticket is insurance against a waitlisted SQ ticket, so if the waitlist clears I will cancel the Avios ticket. What – if anything – would happen to the Amex MR bonus points?

    • TGLoyalty says:

The bonus is linked to the transaction if you have a refund that takes you back under the bonus you lose the points.

So either spend however much you expect to be refunded on other things or close your card before the refund hits.

    • Rob says:

      You lose it
