Heathrow Airport and First Bus have launched a new RailAir coach link from Guildford railway station to the airport.

It is timed to connect with fast trains from Portsmouth, Petersfield, Havant and Haslemere.  The journey time is expected to be just under 60 minutes.  Coaches will run hourly from 3.40am and call at the University of Surrey, RHS Garden Wisley and on through to Heathrow Terminal 5, the Compass Centre and Central Bus Station.

As befits British public transport, the fare structure is suitably complicated:

  • £9 for an adult single (app, online, through-ticketed with a rail ticket)
  • £16.20 for an adult return (“)
  • £10 for an adult single (pay on bus)
  • £18 for an adult return (“)
  • £unspecified for a ‘two together’ ticket (First Bus app only)
  • £25 for a ‘Group 4’ ticket single
  • £45 for a ‘Group 4’ ticket return
  • Child fares are 50% of the above adult fares

Does anyone know the cut-off for “the last 3 years”? Just checked back and my last Shell transfer was end of Q2 2016, so end of June/start of July. Would be very annoying if I miss out by 2 weeks

    • Rob says:

It says 36 months – whether that is from the start of the promo or the date you convert is the issue.

OT – Creation’s IHG card with Xero..

Has anyone else got the IHG card and needed to add it to Xero accounting software? Just wondering if there’s a workaround, there’s no way to add it for automatic feeds and I’ve just discovered that creation don’t offer the ability to download transactions as a CSV file either! Creation never fail to surprise me with how poor they are!

    • BLT says:

Yep no easy work around. I highlight the statement data and copy and paste it in to a Xero statement template csv. Then use a Mac csv to ofx converter on Mac. You can skip the last section but I found csv files can have errors easily. Only takes a couple of minutes but a pain non the less.

Where is it you can look up the hertz £1 thingy

    OT – Hotels.com

If I book 2 rooms for 5 nights in one single booking under my account, does it count as 10 nights?

    • Rob says:

      Yes, done this myself.

    • Matt says:

I think it’s limited only by the number of rooms you can book – I’ve had up to 4 on one booking. The bookings don’t have to be for you, so you could have separate bookings in different names.

  • Jovanna says:

My Platinum card expires at the end of this month. I’ve not had a replacement yet. Is this typical?

  • Kipto says:

O/T sec 75 credit card cover. I have an avios booking to Larnaca on 6th August from LHR for four people. This could be affected by either the BA pilots strike or the security personnel at the airport going on strike. I paid for the taxes/fees/seat selection in August last year on a platinum or SPG card that has long since been cancelled. Am I still covered or does the sec 75 coverage expire when the card is cancelled ? . I have just bought my travel insurance for the trip. The agent said that I wasn’t covered for strike cancellation insurance as the strike was in the “public knowledge.” I told him that the BA pilots hadn’t even started to vote yet but he said that as it was in the public knowledge I wasn’t covered. I have fourteen days to cancel and seek out other policies that may differ.

    • James says:

If it was a platinum charge card then S75 doesn’t apply due to not being a credit card. If it was SPG then S75 applies in principle, though I don’t know anything about trying to get S75 to cover a purchase which is effectively part points and part cash.

    • Anon says:

That’s why you make sure you have travel insurance from the time your holiday is booked! Otherwise everyone would only get it when they knew they would actually need it, and why insurance companies won’t cover you in these circumstances.

    • Callum says:

“I told him that the BA pilots hadn’t even started to vote yet but he said that as it was in the public knowledge I wasn’t covered.”

There’s no point looking for other policies – not a single one would cover you for a strike that you knew was being planned before you bought it. Surely it’s pretty obvious why that’s the case?

    • Dave says:

      Which insurer was this?

    • Charlieface says:

S75 does apply even if you already cancelled the card. The credit card is fully liable for the contract which includes EC261 rules. Strikes by airline staff are not normally considered extraordinary circumstances.

  • Andy S says:

How would tesco know if I was a shell drivers club member or not? I guess BA would know if I got avios both from shell and tesco, but they have not contacted me

    • Rob says:

BA knows if your BAEC account earned from Shell and that is the criteria.

      • Lev441 says:

What about from avios.com as that’s where all my shell Avios went to….

  • ChrisH says:

Does anyone know who actually gives the AVIOS bonus? BA, Tesco? And how long it takes to show up? I did a trial transfer, and no bonus yet, but I just might not be waiting long enough.

    • Martin says:

I have spoken with Tesco and BA CS and both had no idea that the promotion existed – BA were (typically) unhelpful and suggested I ask Tesco. Tesco promised to investigate and call me back no later than Tuesday – I am still waiting! Meanwhile done a test transfer and will see what happens,

      • ChrisH says:

I definitely transferred points, and checked my BAEC account and they are on there (admittedly, only 10 points) and did a test transfer on the 14th. I still cannot see any bonus points. Please, please, if you get an answer on who gives the bonus points, please post. I will then transfer all of my tescos vouchers and smile!

        • Martin says:

Hi, Tesco CS man eventually called back (reliable!) – Tesco have contacted BA and BA confirmed that the 40% bonus promotion is legit, and should apply to anyone who was a member of Shell Drivers Club and transferred points in the past – the bonus Avios are added by BA, Tesco just handle the basic transfer. The burning question is how can you confirm that you are eligible for the bonus? A phone call to BAEC CS perhaps – my first attempt drew a blank, but might be worth another try, now that word may have spread amongst CS staff? Otherwise do a small test transfer and see What happens – I also did one on 14th July, no bonus yet but then it did say allow up to 28 days. If my bonus appears I will post here, and then transfer all of my Tesco voucher pile.
