BALPA, not content with threatening strike action at British Airways, has now announced strike dates at Ryanair.

It is interesting to see how they are taking a different approach to the BA dispute.  BALPA said yesterday:

We have made no progress with Ryanair management on any of those areas at all, seemingly because Ryanair management cannot understand how to go about working with us constructively, or how to negotiate. Ryanair has made no offer to BALPA in respect of its pilots.

…. and so, as soon as the vote in favour of strike action was announced, Ryanair was given notice of strike dates.  There will be no trips to ACAS.

The Ryanair strike dates are:

  • 00.01 on 22nd August until 23.59 on 23rd August
  • 00.01 on 2nd September until 23.59 on 4th September

The first strike coincides with the next proposed strike at Heathrow Airport on 23rd-24th, so anyone booking with a legacy carrier to avoid Ryanair could be in for a second unfortunate surprise …..
