The slightly odd, very stylish and pretty cheap Atrium Hotel opens at Heathrow Airport

If you have driven to Heathrow via Hatton Cross recently, you may have noticed an odd cylindrical building taking shape directly opposite Hatton Cross tube station.

This is the Atrium Hotel – and it has just opened.

This seems to be an odd hotel:

it is huge, at 612 rooms

it has decided not to align with a major international brand.  To me, this seems like commercial suicide in the airport market where a large proportion of guests will be from outside the UK and are looking for the comfort of a big brand.

it is owned by a small company called Regency Homes, not one of the big operators such as Interstate or Arora who have a lot of experience at Heathrow

That said, from a look at the Atrium Hotel website there is a lot to like:

it has a very modern design-led interior

there are a lot of room combinations, including rooms with three beds – this is a great place for families or small groups

it has a pool

some rooms have runway views (although the building is low so take that with a pinch of salt)

the location, literally seconds from Hatton Cross tube station, makes it convenient for all four terminals (it is probably 90 seconds walk nearer the tube than the Hilton Garden Inn)

it is very cheap at present – I saw rooms from £55 for a random Friday night in September

We hope to check it out soon and do a full report.

The website is here.  However, as it is not part of any loyalty scheme, I would book it via Hotels.com instead – this is the specific booking page for the hotel – if the price is the same and earn a credit in Hotels.com Rewards.

Note that, when we booked our room to do a future review, it was £11 cheaper to logged-on Hotels.com users than it was on the Atrium’s own website.  You don’t see the cheaper rate if you are not logged in.

    It also has an executive lounge! At a £142 for an executive room versus £37 at the premier inn I’ll give it a miss. Pity as I only just booked the premier inn last week and would be happy to give it a try.

    It doesn’t state room sizes which always makes me wonder….

      Never pay extra for an executive room if you have Plat + PP and are staying at one of the Heathrow T4 connected hotels, for example – you can just wander down the tunnel to the arrivals lounge for a few hours instead and save a good 50+ quid/visit normally. From what I can tell the executive rooms might have a coffee maker and that be the only difference other than lounge access so I consider the ‘free hotel lounge’ feature of the arrivals lounge PP membership savings as a big part of the value of the Plat fee over the year…

          The past few times I have been in the T4 arrivals lounge they have not asked for a boarding pass, although each time I did have a case with me so it was kind of obvious I had just traveled or was about to.
          Maybe carry a man bag with you just to be on the safe side! 😉

    I’ve stayed here for work with a bunch of colleagues and the hotel didn’t have parking at the time, which they may do now.

    Breakfast was a little disorganised, there is a huge banquetting hall where they serve breakfast. I saw a lot of coach loads coming here.

    The pool and gym were not functioning when we came either.

    The room was actually quite nice and quiet as well. Couldn’t hear a peep from outside.

    Very poorly written copy on Hotels.com
    It’s variously referenced to as being in Feltham (which I guess postally it is) and Hillingdon (just inside the Borough boundary, but nowhere near the “place” of Hillingdon.
    Gives the walking time to Heathrow t4 but not Hatton Cross.
    The photos look nice but I can imagine at weekends it will also be popular with 20 somethings of the “stay at home generation” having room parties.
    Also I’m seeing £53 on the night I looked at.

    Very mixed reviews on tripadvisor! I might give it a go next time I’m overnighting at Heathrow but my expectations have already been set to ‘low’.

      The HGI isn’t great so for £50 and across the road from the tube station it’s somewhere to get to late and leave early.

      Really surprised they went unbranded.

      As I’ve, until recently, worked a mile from here, and stay at HGI HX often, I’ve been monitoring the building of the Atrium. The first thing I noticed was that there were multiple reviews on trip adviser months ago, before it had even finished being constructed.

      Whilst it is across the road from HX, it’s a bloody dangerous and busy road. Good luck crossing!

      The one good thing is that it’s easy to get to from the train: It is in Feltham, and the 285 drops you off almost opposite. It may also be in the Heathrow Free Zone, so free transfers from Heathrow

      And runway views may be a hell of a stretch: You can certainly see the runways (both) from the HGI, but that’s 7 stories. This is 4 stories. What you MAY be able to see is the field of ponies, donkeys and geese opposite though, which may be nicer 🙂 It is, however, DIRECTLY under the flightpath to 90S

      One last thing: If you ever have the misfortune to stay here, it is close to hounslow, so you’ll be able to get some fantastic food via deliveroo!

      I think the majority of the 1 star reviews are from people who were impacted by the delayed opening, though, rather than from people who actually succeeded in staying there.

    Via Trivago, my random Friday night in September (20th) is £53 with SnapTravel for a double room but £58 over at Hotrls.com. Call me old fashioned but I would keep the cash rather than collect the points.

      Room party: drunk and coked up local youngsters who get a room at the weekend to carry on drinking since they can’t afford to move out from their parents.
      Book a night at the ibis budget, Hounslow for the experience.
