IHG Rewards Club ending free Kindle books for members

If you are a member of IHG Rewards Club, you are entitled to receive free Kindle ebooks.
This is how it works:
- Club members (base level) receive 1 free download bi-annually
- Gold Elite members receive 1 free download per quarter
- Platinum Elite members receive 2 free downloads per quarter
- Spire Elite members receive 3 free downloads per quarter
This benefit will be withdrawn on 31st December.
I don’t see this as a major loss, to be honest. You only got access to a very limited selection of ebooks – you couldn’t take your pick from the entire catalogue.
It was also badly targeted. IHG was giving away free books to EVERYONE who signed up for an IHG Rewards Club membership, which was presumably costing it money servicing people who had no interest in their hotels but did like free ebooks.
I think most IHG Rewards Club members would be happier for IHG to focus its resources on elite benefits that members actually value, such as guaranteed upgrades, lounge access or free breakfast.
