oneworld to open its first directly managed airport lounge in Moscow

One of the announcements from the oneworld 20th anniversary event in London earlier this year was the announcement of branded and operated lounges.

This is already common practice with SkyTeam – which has one in Heathrow Terminal 4 – and Star Alliance, but oneworld has held out so far.

(There is a oneworld-branded lounge in Los Angeles, but this is the Qantas lounge in disguise.)

The first location has now been announced – Moscow Domodedovo airport.

Whilst Domodedovo is the home of S7 Airlines, a oneworld member, it seems that it is unwilling to run a flagship lounge itself and so is turning to its alliance partners for support.  Given that S7 runs 140 flights per day from Domodedovo, however, it is clear who will be providing most of the guests.

The other oneworld airlines using the airport are British Airways, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Qatar Airways and Royal Jordanian.  They only run around 10 flights between them.

There is no opening date for the new oneworld lounge, with more details promised in the New Year.

OT. Did anyone apply for new Vitality Amex?
    How does it look offers-wise?

Is it worth using the BA shopping portal? I bought something in mid-September and received an email 3 days later saying the Avios were on there way and I’d receive them within 35 days. That was >3 months ago…

Nothing really to lose by using the BA (and/or Virgin) shopping portals. Compare their offers with CB sites and see who comes out best. I would say they are all equally reliable (but not 100% so). Only problem I’ve had with BA is they sometimes try to recover Avios months or years later, and this never happens with CB sites.

I’ve found shopping portals are a good source of avios. Just watch out if you return an item, that will most likely mean you get no avios, not even for any remaining portion of that order.
e.g. I ordered jumpers and shoes from a large chain store via a shopping portal. Pick up in store. Shoes had to go back as did not fit me. Store could not exchange as had no suitable stock. Cost of shoes refunded in store. All avios including for knitware lost.

We stayed at Ritz Carlton and really enjoyed it. It was an Amex FHR booking, got an upgrade to a room with Exec lounge access. Close enough to the action without being on it – Bourbon St is something else…

If you want one recommendation then try to get to a Preservation Hall jazz show, one of the best hours of our trip and we aren’t massive jazz fans.

All other hotels should pay attention to how this sale is operating…..xx% off best available rate……. Not their most expensive rate !!
