oneworld to open its first directly managed airport lounge in Moscow

One of the announcements from the oneworld 20th anniversary event in London earlier this year was the announcement of branded and operated lounges.

This is already common practice with SkyTeam – which has one in Heathrow Terminal 4 – and Star Alliance, but oneworld has held out so far.

(There is a oneworld-branded lounge in Los Angeles, but this is the Qantas lounge in disguise.)

The first location has now been announced – Moscow Domodedovo airport.

Whilst Domodedovo is the home of S7 Airlines, a oneworld member, it seems that it is unwilling to run a flagship lounge itself and so is turning to its alliance partners for support.  Given that S7 runs 140 flights per day from Domodedovo, however, it is clear who will be providing most of the guests.

The other oneworld airlines using the airport are British Airways, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Qatar Airways and Royal Jordanian.  They only run around 10 flights between them.

There is no opening date for the new oneworld lounge, with more details promised in the New Year.

    OT:

Does plat insurance cover purchases made by all of my Amex cards or just plat?

Also if I book the round leg of a trip separately, I.e departure form UK with Amex and return with a non Amex card, is that still covered by Amex insurance?

    • the_real_a says:

      1) All uk AMEX cards issued by AMEX (not banks although i dont think there are any left now). The “Card definition” is what you want to read in the T&C`s.

      2) You wont be covered by the specific sub-sections in the policy that require booking travel on AMEX for the return portion of the trip. Once again you need to look at the sub-sections of the policy to see which require booking on the card. You are fine with medical, car rental etc… but you will lose travel inconvenience and accident on the return portion from memory.

As a Moscovite born-and-raised, I’ll take any new lounge in DME, but it’s a bit of an odd choice surely.
Thee BA/Iberia lounge is already cavernous, even a full 787 doesn’t fill it up completely. I also can’t imagine S7 has a lot of cash to spare. Even though it’s IMO the best (and safest by far…) airline in Russia, they have to compete with state-backed Arroflot. However, DME are almost done building a whole new fancy terminal, so maybe that explains it – convenient availability of space.

    OT – Awardwallet.
My android app wont open , just getting a white screen. Deleted and reinstalled the app but getting the same issue. Are others getting the same?

Does the Corinthia PS mean that Emyr can’t access rates for the other European Corinthia hotels?

OT, has anyone who invested in Curve received any Swags or the card yet ?

O/T – Virgin Credit card sign up bonus.
Any little birds out there know if the sign up offer on the free Virgin Atlantic credit card (i.e. 10k miles instead of 5k) is likely to return anytime soon?

  • Zana says:

O/T – wondering whether anyone has experience on claiming travel insurance when forced to return to the UK due to an home emergency (flooding!) on an Avios redemption ticket. Do insurers treat Avios at zero value? I’m on HSBC Premier insurance and appears caught out by either a general exclusion on “free” Avios tickets or being treated as though the ticket was purchased at zero price plus taxes. Many thanks!

    • Lady London says:

Does not sound like you’re covered. I’ve never seen a policy that does not state cost of freebies, award tickets etc is regarded as zero. Though I’d like to see one!

Perhaps you can claim under other sections such as early termination of holiday though.

OT: Are amex esso credits coming through ok? Nine days since my first transaction (paypoiht) but still nothing.

    • Tom1 says:

Spent on 11th December, credit came through 18th.

      • BJ says:

Thanks, looks like I may have issues on both cards then. Also having a problem with Hilton offer atm too. All a bit odd because I rarely had problems with offers before.

    • AJA says:

I spent £59 at Esso on 17 Dec. The £5 credit appeared this morning with a credit date of yesterday 22 Dec.
