Norwegian decides against launching flights from Heathrow Airport

Late last year Norwegian put its hat in the ring for the Heathrow slot lottery and was awarded a handful of summer 2020 slots.

These takeoff and landing slots would have enabled it to launch three weekly flights from Heathrow Airport.

Getting into Heathrow is, on paper, a key ambition for most carriers.  However, in reality, it would not have made much sense.  There would have been no connection opportunities and the cost involved in setting up a separate Heathrow operation probably isn’t worth it for three weekly flights.

Norwegian seems to agree, because after “careful consideration” they have decided to return the slots to the airport.  Given their attempts to control spending and “move from growth to profitability” this was most likely the right decision.

OT: Hi, if I refer someone who’s not entitled to an Amex signup bonus, would they still get the increased part of the bonus due to referral? Or just won’t get anything at all?

    • sayling says:

You either get all of the bonus, or none of it

    • Anna says:

They won’t get any bonus if they’re not entitled, however you would still get a referral bonus if they were accepted for a qualifying card (which is most of them).

  • Benilyn says:

OT: Anyone know any retail brokers who let you trade single name international bonds. Hargreaves has a bunch of UK Gilts & UK Corporate bonds (HSBC, BP, Vod etc), but looking to buy US convertible / bullet bonds where min denom is $1k for some. And if so, ideally in an ISA wrapper.

    BITS OT
Not sure if anyone has mentioned on the other pages.
I got email from Red Dufry informing me I was back down to silver from Plat. I went on to the Dragon Pass App and can still purchase $10 lounge passes.

  • lumma says:

OT – Just got a email from Red by Dufry saying I’ve dropped to Silver from Platinum. Can still buy the lounge passes for $10 on the Dragonpass App

    • Shoestring says:

yep that email prompted me to buy some passes for my son, I thought I might be too late as it’s 1 month + 1 day since he got the Plat/ he slipped to Silver

—> but he was still able to buy passes @$10

    • Rob says:

Snap. DP still works for me.

      • James k says:

Has anyone had experience / success in transferring DP to other family members – ie can I use 4 of my $10passes to get me the wife, and two kids into the lounge?

  • Mark says:

OT: Curve blue card. Does anyone know for sure if the £200 overseas fee free ATM limit is part of, or in addition to the £500 exchange loading free allowance?

Got slightly over the £200 limit by mistake (£234 across two transactions) but don’t appear to have been charged a fee unless hidden in the exchange rate.

    • John says:

Don’t think Curve enforce these particular limits. Certainly have never been charged.

    • Polly says:

Think they don’t charge. Fee for in or around the 200. We drew out 230 total between 3 trans so difficult to calculate when it’s millions of rupiahs, and not charged.

  • Jane says:

OT. has anyone managed to use the dragon pass $10 visits for a guest. I know it says no guests but is it a case of ‘computer says no’ or you may get away with it depending on the person on the door.

    • Shoestring says:

yep just act nice and you’ll probably be fine (and yes, people have reported both getting in AND desk agent said no)

      • Jane says:

thanks. might as well give it a go, they can only say no. hopefully not after they have scanned one of us in though !

        • Shoestring says:

there’s a back up plan you might think about, £18 for
          https://salaryextras.dragonpassuk.com

you could keep it in reserve or just order it if refused, delivery was instant

          • Lady London says:

Or companion has app on their phone too… You know what you have to do

          • Jane says:

Thanks for that, but now I actually look there is DragonPass lounge in either of the two airports that I was looking at.

          • Shoestring says:

are you checking on the Dragonpass site or the Red By Dufry site? Because you can ignore whatever RBD says
            https://en.dragonpass.com.cn/airports

          • Jane says:

Can’t reply under your recent comment for some reason… dragon pass direct. San Juan (PR) and San Diego no lounges apparently.

          • Lady London says:

Lounges usually have more than one way of getting in. You might be able to buy one off pass for one of the other routes the particular lounge accepts.

Personally if it gets that complicated then if I dont need to work I’m likely to just go to a restaurant in the terminal.

          • Shoestring says:

2 pints of Guinness in the pub at LHR T3 is only £10 & I consider an hour spent there waiting for flight to be called as the beginning of my hols

  • Joe says:

    O/T
Just received Virgin Money statement – points capped at 37500 for month.

    • Keith says:

If you have had your card open for 6 months it’s very easy on the website to request a credit increase. I got instant approval when I tried the other day, which will take the edge of the points limiting.

      • TonyG says:

If you request an increase does it affect your credit score?

        • Keith says:

It’s possible that they will run a credit check on you with one or multiple credit agencies, but it’s also possible that they will just look at the information they already hold on you, pattern of spending etc and issue the increase without a check.

In any case what impact such a check has on your Credit Score with any of the credit agencies is impossible to predict as those scores are made up of multiple pieces of information.

I do not worry to much about my credit scores as I know I always pay my bills on time etc. Things I do in the points game that can result in reports like ‘Too many credit applications in a short time’, ‘Short relationships with accounts before closing’, ‘Too much credit used as a proportion of income’ are notes which I’ve noticed can pretty much all be removed by doing nothing for about 6 months. I would probably take a 6 month break of the game prior to Mortgage or Loan application, but otherwise unless you need a really good credit score imminently, what is the harm of it dipping a bit to achieve something you want in the short term?

    • Alan says:

I take it that’s on a £25k limit? I received >22k on my £10k limit (statement last week) and never received an email from them saying I’d be limited so am wondering if it still doesn’t apply to everyone?

OTOH have also noticed that Hilton Barclaycard now won’t let you pay off within-month by any more than your statement amount…

The HfP comments are really good, and add value to the site. I look at several sites, and find HfP far and away the most interesting. Of the more blogger style sites whilst they do sometimes have good info, the amount of ego and fluff means none of them are essential reading. HfP might have it’s filler days, but over time it’s very good, and I usually learn something from it.
Apart from a couple of finger splodges I always post in my own name, which is shockingly my real name.
