How to save 10% on Iberostar hotels and resorts by joining ‘My Iberostar’

This is our review of the ‘My Iberostar’ loyalty programme from Iberostar hotels and resorts.
We normally focus on the big name hotel loyalty schemes on Head for Points, such as Hilton Honors or Marriott Rewards. We look at smaller schemes from time to time – here is our review of Club H10 and here is our review of Pestana Priority Guest – and today I want to look at Spanish-based hotel group Iberostar.

How does My Iberostar work?
Iberostar is a Spanish hotel chain that runs a lot of 4 and 5 star holiday properties.
Iberostar owns hotels in Mallorca, Tenerife, the Dominican Republic and various other places. However, not all hotels take part in My Iberostar. You can only benefit from stays in Spain, Tunisia, Portugal, Morocco, Greece, Hungary, Montenegro and Cape Verde.
Because it doesn’t have anything like the number of hotels offered by Hilton or Marriott, there is no point in Iberostar running a complex points-based loyalty programme. It knows that, at best, a regular customer will only visit once or twice per year.
What ‘My Iberostar’ does offer – and the reason you should join – is that you get a cash discount and free gifts on all your stays. Saving money is always better than receiving points anyway!
The programme has three tiers:
Level 1 – this is what you get for signing up (which is free)
A discount of up to 10% on your bookings
Receive IberostarPOINTS worth 10% of the final booking cost
Level 2 – after your first trip
Get a discount of up 15% on your future bookings
Get a 2pm late check-out at the majority of hotels (2+ night stay required)
Get a €25 credit to spend in the hotel restaurant or spa (2+ night stay required)
Receive IberostarPOINTS worth 12% of the final booking cost
Level 3 – after your third stay, or after spending €5,000, whichever comes first
Get a discount of up 15% on your future bookings
Get a 2pm late check-out at the majority of hotels (2+ night stay required)
Get a €50 credit to spend in the hotel restaurant or spa (2+ night stay required)
Receive IberostarPOINTS worth 15% of the final booking cost
Importantly, the small print says that the 10% or 15% discount CAN be combined with most other offers and promotions.
Remember that you must book directly on the Iberostar website or via their call centres to receive your discount and earn IberostarPOINTS.

What can I do with IberostarPOINTS?
IberostarPOINTS can be redeemed for a range of gifts, which vary by hotel.
It is a different structure to most hotel loyalty programmes, where you can only redeem points on FUTURE stays. IberostarPOINTS are credited before you arrive so you can redeem them before your current stay.
Once you have booked, you will be credited with the points you will receive for the stay. You have up to 10 days before check-in to select the gift you want, which will be delivered during your stay.
If you do not make a selection before 10 day cut-off point, you CANNOT redeem your points at the last minute before arrival or at the hotel. They sit in your IberostarPOINTS account and must be redeemed on a future stay.
Do IberostarPOINTS expire?
Yes. It is quite a tough expiry policy, so it is best to redeem your points immediately by selecting a gift up to 10 days before check in.
Your points will expire if you do not have a hotel stay credited to your account within 12 months
Regardless of your stays, points will expire 24 months after being earned
Here is an example. If you have a stay in June 2020, any unused points carried forward will expire in June 2021. However, if you have another Iberostar stay between June 2020 and June 2021, the points from your June 2020 stay will not expire until June 2022. There is NO ability to carry them forward beyond June 2022.
Conclusion
The ‘My Iberostar’ loyalty programme won’t get you any free stays. It will, however, get you a generous discount of up to 15% on your stays AND get you a free gift each time.
Given that ‘My Iberostar’ is free to join it is worth signing up and – if you can – booking directly via the Iberostar website here or via the call centre to ensure you get your discount and gift.
