Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Does American Express insurance cover you for coronavirus?

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

If you have an American Express Platinum charge card, or any other card which offers travel, medical and trip cancellation insurance benefits, the company has produced a guide to your rights under coronavirus.

You can download it here as a PDF.

It includes a series of questions and answers which should clarify when and how you can make a claim.  This will vary depending on your reasons for cancelling and the travel situation in the country to which you were travelling.

As we have covered in the past, the actual American Express Platinum insurance policy document is very weak indeed.

American Express had told us that it would be covering coronavirus related payments, but this clearly wasn’t legally binding.

I hope that this new document offers some security to cardholders who are concerned about their cover.
