Competition: Win 10,000 Avios as we hit 10,000 HfP articles

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

We almost missed this. We have reached a milestone at Head for Points: 10,000 articles.

As we can’t get the team together and celebrate with a bottle of champagne, we have decided to run a competition instead and say Thank You to YOU – our readers.

One lucky reader will win 10,000 Avios that they can use for a post-corona getaway.

All you need to do is fill out the Gleam widget at the bottom of this article and – for an optional second entry – follow us on Instagram.

10,000 articles ago ……

When Rob started Head for Points it was a simple WordPress hobby blog and looked a bit/lot different:

Win 10,000 Avios

A simple (free) WordPress layout, no thumbnails, no logo, no advertising (it’s not allowed on the free WordPress service) and only four navigation headings. Rob even called the website a blog in those days, a word we are banned from using now ….

His first ever article had the typical WordPress ‘Hello World’ in its URL: https://www.headforpoints.com/2012/05/29/hello-world/

If you’ve got too comfortable with the current logo and website layout, don’t worry.  We are currently working on a revamp of the website – we are using our lockdown time productively – and will hopefully be able to share the new design soon. Stay tuned.

For now we celebrate the past 10,000 articles:

Head for Points 10,000 articles

…… and you can win 10,000 Avios.

The competition

It’s very straightforward to enter.  Simply fill out the Gleam app at the bottom of this post (or by clicking through to the Gleam website if it doesn’t show on your device) and give us your name and email address.  That’s it.

You will get a second entry to the competition if you follow us on Instagram.

We have neglected Instagram but we are now making more of an effort.  You will be able to follow the Head for Points team on their travels as well as experience events like new seat introductions or Q&As with the big names of the industry first hand via Instagram stories.

If you already follow us on Instagram, you don’t lose out.  Just click through to our Instagram page via the entry form and the Gleam software will automatically count your entry.

The competition ends at midnight on Sunday 3rd May 2020.

The full competition terms and conditions can be found by clicking ‘Terms and Conditions’ but here are a couple to note.  The rules in the entry widget take precedence over this summary in case of any confusion.

There is one prize of 10,000 Avios

Entries are limited to one submission form per person

The winner must be 18 years or older and resident of the United Kingdom

The winner must have a British Airways Executive Club account

You must be physically present in the United Kingdom or Channel Islands for the website to accept your entry

This competition is organised by Head for Points.  Avios Group Ltd is not involved in its organisation and is not responsible for arranging delivery of the prize.

Best of luck.

  • Harry T says:

Great work, team! This is the site I always come back to for the excellent articles, insight and community.

  • BT01 says:

Wow congratulations to Rob and the team, this is a great achievement.
I also wish that I found this website a few years ago, the comments from other readers is also
helpful as you can often learn from them as well.

  • mr_jetlag says:

Congratulations, I hope this means the 1m comment milestone includes a 1m avios giveaway too 😉

  • Heathrow Flyer says:

Congratulations team. I’ve been reading the blog since early 2015 and it’s helped with my travels ever since. Long may it continue.

P.S. The scoundrels over at the other blog now reckon they’re the ‘biggest website of our kind’ in the UK? Not sure what they’re basing that off…

    • Rob says:

Here’s the thing. That’s not true and they know it. Our numbers are public knowledge and publicly validated, around 20 million page views per year.

      • Secret Squirrel says:

Another untruth they band around are their FB advert click bait headings.🤔

      • Mr(s) Entitled says:

If I recall correctly you have mentioned before that HfP is the number 350 website in the UK? I’m bored on lockdown. What is number 349 and 351? Maybe I will like them just as much. Websites in the mid 300’s might be my niche.

        • Rob says:

We’re 420th at the moment. Never seen the list, oddly – I’m not sure if alexa.com actually publish it.

    • Secret Squirrel says:

Is that the newbie on the block, the U.K side who pump out 4-5 keyword rich, consultant written articles per day with little detail?

      • Heathrow Flyer says:

That’s the one SS. You’ll also rarely see any reader comments.

      • TGLoyalty says:

I actually follow them on Instagram and subscribe to their emails but the email format is so full I’ve never actually clicked a link or read an article.

  • Baji Nahid says:

Thank you so much team. I came across this website this year in 2020 and I am forever greatful ! Looking foward to your next meet up and would love to meet you all in person!

  • The Original Nick says:

Just entered the competition. Thanks Rob. I’ve been reading and commenting since June 2012 and have had plenty of help from here and Rob directly. Good luck everyone!

  • Lyn says:

Congratulations to the whole HfP team. Well done! Thanks for all the many helpful articles over the years.

  • Super Secret Stuff says:

I’ve entered and got my other half to enter as well. Lol.

I do think you should push Instagram more, the Instagram travel segment is massive. As a 20 year old I am probably in a minority on here but doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist. Plenty of hard working 20 to 30 year old that could learn a thing or two

    • TGLoyalty says:

Agree on insta. I was surprised the parties and press events haven’t been put on the story more often.

It looks like Rhys and/or Anika have convinced Rob that it’s required these days

      • Super Secret Stuff says:

I agree. The media industry changes and it is time they adopted this – potentially – valuable marketing platform.

Also I wonder if the head for points team is aware there is a growing trend for people doing university degrees whilst being paid (or other levels of apprenticeships paid for by that companies apprentice levy). That’s me and as of a year ago I put all my work spend through my personal amex. Head for points is therefore a valuable resource for me.

    • Lady London says:

What is the Instagram travel segment?
      Who uses it?
      For what?

Unsure I want another social media thing to keep track of.

      • Rob says:

        Don’t ask me 🙂

        • Super Secret Stuff says:

Millennial and 20 somethings. A main driver is seeing an amazing view or an amazing “instagramable” room / feature.

Its massive, people share on their stories an interesting travel location or tips to find cheap air fares all the time. Its major.

I sometimes (not so much right now) just look at the # travel. Do a quick search.

          • Super Secret Stuff says:

Oh and don’t get me started on “share this to your story for a chance to win…” type competitions
