Nominate a coronavirus hero for a free 2-night hotel stay via Small Luxury Hotels

Small Luxury Hotels of the World has got together with its member properties to offer 500 free 2-night stays to people working on the front line of the coronavirus pandemic.

This offer is not restricted to healthcare workers.  The company is encouraging nominations (which can’t be more than 50 words long) for delivery drivers, charity workers and people supporting the elderly, homeless and disadvantaged, amongst others.  If you believe someone deserves to be nominated, whatever their role, you are free to do so.

500 people will receive a voucher for a free 2-night stay (room only) at any Small Luxury Hotels of the World property of their choice.

Winners can take their stay between 1st October 2020 and 30th September 2021.

This is a very attractive offer.  SLH has a lot of impressive hotels in its portfolio, and a 2-night stay at many of them is likely to set you back £400-£500.

The chain is particularly strong in the UK, including Luton Hoo and Stoke Park.  It also has The Atlantic in Jersey (below) which I visited years ago and is excellent, as well as many niche London hotels.  The group is also very strong across France and Italy, including many boutique countryside properties.  Anyone who receives one of these vouchers will be spoilt for choice.

You can nominate someone for a free stay via this page of the SLH website.  Nominations can be no longer than 50 words.

Whilst the terms & conditions give the impression that this is a UK competition, it appears to be open to anyone.  The nomination form specifically asks which country the person you are nominating lives in.

The only important rules to note are that both the nominee and the nominator must be at least 18 years old and that the person you have nominated must be aware you have done so.  Winners must also agree to their photo or other details being used in SLH publicity material.

    The view from an in-patient (non-COVID) setting leaves one particularly grateful for those working tirelessly in designated COVID wards. Many could have claimed reason to isolate or work from home to support family members and some have voluntarily moved into hospital accommodation for the last few months so as to protect their families.

    No doubt many here will have tales in respect to local care home workers and others, but the reality within the NHS is that many have stepped forward happily and at some cost.

    That said, this the job we chose and no thanks or clapping asked for by most of those at the front line.

    SLH gesture commendable nonethless and those at the front line likely amongst those most comfortable with braving a flight and hotel stay.

    Interesting talk last week on Radio 4 by a doc who was describing a problem with “heroes”.

    And marketing gurus who say it is too late to try and gain kudos by being generous in a Covid world.

    The real unsung heroes are the people like Rob, who keep their businesses going and their staff getting paid. As anyone who runs a business knows, these times are the most challenging, confusing and downright weird that they have ever had to face.

    And Harvard Business School never ran classes on how to cope, either!

    Nor the management paperback that used to fill airport bookshops.
