Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Earn Avios points when you stay with Airbnb – 6 per £1 for first time users

Links on Head for Points may pay us an affiliate commission. A list of partners is here.

Last year, British Airways partnered with Airbnb to offer Avios with each stay you book.  This sits alongside BA’s existing hotel partners.

Earn Avios with Airbnb

The earning rate has recently been cut, although I am not sure when.  The bonus for first time users has become more lucrative though.

You now earn 2 Avios per £1/€1/$1 spent at Airbnb.  This is down from 3 Avios per £/€1/$1 in 2019.

With your first Airbnb booking, you earn 6 Avios per £1/€1/$1.  This replaces the flat ‘first user’ discount of 500 Avios offered last year.  If you are spending more than £125 on your Airbnb rental, you will be better off now as a new user.

The only snag is that you MUST book via the link on  You will not receive any Avios if you go via the standard Airbnb home page.

Get £25 off your first Airbnb booking!

You can also get £25 off your first Airbnb booking of £250+ by using Anika’s refer a friend link which is here.

I don’t know if you can do this and earn Avios at the same time, but the £25 discount is a better deal if you can’t.

PS.  In the past there has been an incentive for becoming an Airbnb host.  This is not currently available.

Hah! Too much Airbnb hosts at the moment?!

  • Vit says:

Received around 1k avios for Airbnb booking in HKG back in April which was later cancelled for full refund due to covid. Kinda expect the avios to be taken back but it hadn’t. 😊

  • Travel Strong says:

I made a reservation under the 3 points per £ offer on 24th July, so the rate cut from 3 points to 2 points per £ has occurred in the last 6 days.

    • Vit says:

Hmmm, strange! Mine was based 2 avios per £. Booed late 2019. Good for you though. 😉

    • Travel Strong says:

Now that I check, 3 points per £ is showing for me *today* still!

  • Martin Louis says:

I would trust a major hotel chain that publishes a Covid-19 cleaning strategy over an airbnb at the moment for a trip anywhere. I had friends stay for a couple of months this year at an airbnb place and had to pay a weekly cleaning fee but it was never carried out.

    • Kipto says:

The cleaning fee should be in the price. I suspect many hosts clean the place themselves.

    • xcalx says:

Bookings at our airbnb are at above average levels and the feed back is they trust a self contained unit over using hotels ( based on 6 stays since July 6th 5 of which were in the 55- 70 age group ). Reviews on airbnb can only be submitted by the person who stayed so are more reliable than some review sites.

Airbnb has a cleaning strategy that hosts pledge to carry out.

      • Martin Louis says:

“Airbnb has a cleaning strategy that hosts pledge to carry out.”

I think pledge is the optimal word here. Their reputation doesn’t get tarnished as much as a chain. airbnb will just shrug its shoulders and say it’s got nothing to do with them and to take it up with the owner.

    • Peter Kemp says:

I think that, whether a hotel or individually owned properties like Airbnb, the cleaning is only as good as the person doing it. Having a commitment to do something by an overarching company does not mean it will be followed. Likewise, some Airbnb owners will take great pride on doing things to the best of their ability and others will not be bothered to put extra effort in.
