New Stansted Express trains now in service

Back in November we covered the launch, into testing, of the new Stansted Express trains.

Coronavirus delayed this process, but the first two new trains finally entered passenger service last week.

The new Stansted Express trains, built by Swiss company Stadler, are longer at 12 walk-through carriages.  They have low floor boarding, free WiFi, power and USB sockets:

The only downside is that these new trains have no First Class.

The full story is on the Greater Anglia website.  The full fleet will be swapped over within the next six to nine months.

Buying a few points could be a useful way of hitting the £10k spend on a BAPP for some people.

    • Secret Squirrel says:

Paying by Amex will incur FX fees, better to go through Curve backed by MC/Visa.

Ordinarily, that would be the best way to carry out foreign currency transactions. But currently as I’m staying at home spending very little, it’s going to be a struggle to hit £10k on my BAPP, so I might do something like this nearer the time.

Similar fee to using Billhop to reach a target. My year doesn’t end until February though, so I might just pay next year’s Council Tax in advance.

I have been my water rates by Amex, but when Santander restructure the 123 incentives this will lose me 3% also

Hilton offer seems to be at 15,000 points + this time? Think the article is incorrect.

V pleased for those hard working folks who won a well earned little break away. Well done.

  • Diane says:

I nominated my sister in law who works for NHS – she won too ! Thanks.

  • Alfonso says:

If the new Stansted trains are standard class only, it is likely (I haven’t checked) that the timetable will show all Stansted Expresses as standard class only, which means if you get an “old” train with first class accommodation, it will be declassified to Standard class.

Anyone been to the Waldorf Astoria Maldives?
Love sunshine and relaxing but need to go June or September. What is the weather like at that time?
    Thanks in advance.

Booking WA would be going in Feb/March.
Reviews are very good, only drawbacks are expensive boat transfer and island not yet established much.
Give it a year and will be fine..

IHG are running a deal on AMB sign ups. If you sign up you get a free night voucher on top of everything else for one stay at an IC. Could be handy for those that have a cheap IC stay coming up but plans to travel to more expensive places in 2021.

Currently the most on the drop down is 80K + 80K bonus. I cant see any option for 160K?

    • Rob says:

Have you already bought 80k? I see a max of 90k + 90k because I bought 70k earlier in the year.

      • David Beckett says:

No? Perhaps I need to play around a bit on some different web browsers?
