Got a free BA Amex? Earn 1,000 bonus Avios over the next seven weeks

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

If you have a British Airways American Express card, you can earn up to 1,000 bonus Avios over the next few weeks from a new promotion launched today.

You will earn one bonus Avios for every £2 you spend between now and 25th October, up to 1,000 bonus Avios.

This applies to spend on both the free British Airways American Express and the ‘annual fee’ British Airways Premium Plus American Express.

Earn 1,000 bonus Avios over the next 7 weeks

(EDIT: Or perhaps not. It seems that this offer is only for free BA Amex cardholders. The information supplied to me by Amex yesterday was vague. Apologies for any confusion.)

Do I need to register?

Yes.

Head over to the American Express website here, log in and look under the ‘Offers’ tab on your British Airways American Express card.

The offer should be showing there. You need to click ‘Save to Card’.

For clarity, I am told that this offer is available to ALL British Airways American Express cardholders. (EDIT: free card only, it seems)

Can supplementary cardholders register too?

No, it seems not.

Earn 1,000 bonus Avios over the next 7 weeks

Is there any other small print?

It looks like the bonus is awarded on a per transaction basis. This means that a £1.99 purchase earns no bonus and a £3.99 purchase only earns 1 bonus Avios.

Online, instore and foreign spend all counts, as does spending made via mobile payment wallets.

Apart from that, it seems very straightforward and well worth putting £2,000 through your card.

It is a good offer with no ‘gotchas’. It should be a way of persuading some people to dig out their BA Amex card from the desk drawer where it was placed after earning the 2-4-1 voucher for the year.

Nothing for me either on my paid card.

  • Nick_C says:

So for the next two months, people with the free card earn 3 Avios for every £2 spent, and people with the paid card earn…. 3 Avios for every £2 spend.

Not much incentive in keeping the paid card then. Nice one Amex.

    • meta says:

Yes, but only if you are planning to spend only 2k. If more then you’re better of keeping BAPP.

    • BJ says:

241 is the incentive for holding the paid card, I doubt there are many who would pay the fee for the small boost in earnings alone.

    • Stan says:

Paid card gets you 1.5 Avios per pound so a £2 spend gets you 4 Avios not 3 with the offer. Both paid and free cards get 1 bonus Avios per £2 spend

      • Nick_C says:

IF they roll it out to everyone with BAPP, they yes of course, but when I posted it looked like that was not happening.

  • vol says:

Nothing on main or sup paid BAPP – it’s 935am 🤷🏽‍♀️

  • Alison V says:

Nothing on my offers (at 10am)
The only one I have from Amex was for 2 bonus Avios with every £1 spent (only selected merchants incl Tescos, Waitrose, Apple). And that one expires in 9 days.

  • Freddy says:

    What a palava!

  • P4D says:

    free card only…..pfffffff thanks Amex……..

    • mark2 says:

I have got it on my BAPP

      • P4D says:

interesting “(EDIT: free card only, it seems)” I guess this is still not the full picture – hopefully they will roll out to all BAPP tks

  • Colin JE says:

Nothing on my BAPP at 11:00. Seems strange to give it to some and not others, given the potential PR fall out. For those of us who’ve earned our 241 it just makes us more aware of shelling out £15 quid a month for nothing.

  • HILARY DANELIAN says:

Nothing on my BAAPP at 11.25
